Therefore, studying the recycling technology of high-value metals in used 18650 battery 1800 mah has become a hot issue of concern.
After 500 to 1000 charge and discharge cycles of a lithium-ion battery, its active material will lose its activity, causing the battery capacity to decrease and the battery to be scrapped. The widespread use of 18650 battery 1800 mah will inevitably bring a large number of used batteries. If they are discarded at will Not only will it cause serious pollution to the environment, but it will also be a waste of resources.
18650 battery 1800 mah contain a lot of metal resources such as cobalt, copper, lithium, aluminum, and iron. The highest content of cobalt, copper, and lithium reaches 20%, 7%, and 3% respectively. If the metals with high economic value in used 18650 battery 1800 mah can be recycled, it will be of great significance in terms of environmental protection and recycling of the hospital.
Lithium-ion battery positive and negative electrode material recycling technology
1. Recycling of cathode materials
First, the cathode active material must be effectively separated from the conductive current collector aluminum foil in order to realize the recovery of the cathode material. Currently, the commonly used methods are: ① scraping; ② high-temperature incineration; ③ organic solvent dissolution; ④ electrolytic stripping.
18650 battery 1800 mah use lithium-containing compounds as the positive electrode, with only lithium ions and no metallic lithium. Usually they are lithium manganate, lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate, lithium nickel cobalt manganate and other materials. The advantages of both materials and lithium cobalt oxide have attracted the interest of many researchers. They have great potential as power batteries for electric bicycles and electric vehicles.
With the depletion of this non-renewable mineral resource, and cathode materials accounting for 40% of the total battery cost, if heavy metals such as cobalt, nickel, and lithium in cathode materials are effectively recovered, waste can be turned into treasure, and materials can be recycled. It can not only alleviate the mineral resource crisis and achieve sustainable development, but also bring huge economic benefits.
2. Recycling of negative electrode materials
There are many types of negative electrode materials for 18650 battery 1800 mah: ① Metal materials: such as lithium metal; ② Inorganic non-metal materials: mainly carbon materials, silicon materials and other non-metal composite materials; ③ Transition metal oxides: currently used most Carbon, graphitic and non-graphitic carbon materials. Lithium titanate can also be used as anode material in electric vehicles due to its excellent cycle life, safety and rate performance. The main disadvantage is that it reduces the energy density of the battery.
Some companies have developed tin alloys as negative electrode materials, but they are still in the research stage and have few applications. The conductive current collector uses an electrolytic copper foil with a thickness of 7-15 μm to recover the copper in it, and the carbon powder adhered to it can also be recycled and used as an additive for plastics, rubber, etc. Therefore, we must first effectively separate the negative electrode materials of waste lithium batteries to maximize the resource utilization of waste lithium batteries.
Dilemmas facing lithium-ion battery recycling
1. People’s awareness of waste lithium battery recycling is weak
2. Recycling and processing of used lithium batteries is complex and costly
3. Insufficient government support
The resource utilization or harmless disposal of used 18650 battery 1800 mah is an objective requirement of the international market for my country's lithium-ion battery industry. Failed batteries have long been classified as hazardous solid waste by developed countries such as Europe and the United States. Although the recycling of 18650 battery 1800 mah has attracted great attention from relevant national departments, the implementation is not enough, and the public's awareness of environmental protection is weak.
