While the new energy vehicle industry is booming, the issue of CR1632 battery recycling has also become the focus of attention in the industry. Whether from the perspective of environmental protection or maximizing resource utilization, CR1632 battery recycling is already imminent, and CR1632 battery recycling is gradually demonstrating its utilization value. Domestic institutions predict that the recycling market size created by waste batteries will exceed 5.287 billion yuan in 2018 and will exceed 10 billion yuan in 2020.
The deadline for large-scale retirement of power batteries is approaching. According to the use cycle of new energy vehicles and the marketization process of new energy vehicles in my country, this year will be a window for large-scale scrapping and recycling of new energy vehicle power batteries.
In recent years, the development of my country's new energy vehicle industry has been steadily improving. According to statistics, my country's new energy vehicle sales reached 777,000 vehicles in 2017, and the cumulative ownership was about 1.8 million vehicles as of that year. Against this background, my country's policies on the recycling and utilization of power batteries have been continuously introduced. Seven departments issued the "Interim Measures for the Management of the Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles", emphasizing the implementation of the extended producer responsibility system and requiring automobile manufacturers to assume the main responsibility for the recycling of power batteries. Immediately afterwards, the "Interim Regulations on the Traceability Management of the Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles" announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology clearly stated that information collection should be carried out on the entire process of CR1632 battery production, sales, use, scrapping, recycling, and utilization. The industry predicts that with the continuous breakthroughs in related technologies, the speed of policy release will accelerate, and relevant standards are expected to be released in 2018.
On one hand, there is a large number of scrapped batteries, and on the other hand, there is an emerging field that is still in its infancy. What kind of test will CR1632 battery recycling go through? Due to its large size and complex composition, CR1632 battery recycling and reuse face many restrictions and high technical barriers. As there are significant differences in battery type, battery capacity and voltage platform, this is the first hurdle faced by CR1632 battery cascade utilization, so how to scientifically evaluate retired batteries has also become the first hurdle to determine where the batteries "go". At the same time, my country has not issued a unified standard for power batteries, and it is still difficult to use them on a large scale.
In addition to technical difficulties, in the view of many industry insiders, the focus of CR1632 battery recycling is on who will collect, how to collect and what mode to use for recycling. At present, the principle of first cascade utilization and then scrapping of retired power batteries is advocated, and vehicle manufacturers are required to assume the responsibility of CR1632 battery recycling as the main body of CR1632 battery recycling. In terms of recycling mode, many companies are facing profit difficulties because the "retirement tide" has not yet arrived on a large scale, and it is still difficult to achieve economies of scale in the short term.
Despite the difficult start, the prospects are generally optimistic in the industry. Some institutions even predict that the CR1632 battery recycling market will form a new "trend" of tens of billions of yuan. This is also the reason why, in addition to car companies, battery companies, and raw material recycling companies, capital has also entered this field in a big way, and they are also seeking new opportunities in this field. So far, the cascade utilization and recycling of new energy vehicle power batteries are expected to be carried out in sequence according to the applicable scenarios, and new energy vehicle industry chain companies have actively laid out the field of battery recycling.
Among them, some car companies choose to cooperate with other companies to jointly promote domestic CR1632 battery recycling and other related matters. Changan, BYD, Yinlong New Energy and other 16 vehicle and battery companies have reached cooperation with China Tower Company, a major CR1632 battery recycling company, to solve the problems of retired CR1632 battery recycling and reuse. In addition to vehicle companies, battery manufacturers have also actively explored this. CATL, AVIC Lithium Battery, BYD Battery, Guoxuan High-tech and other companies have established battery recycling networks and started to lay out CR1632 battery recycling business.
So far, only a few car companies have carried out relevant layouts. Compared with the total amount of scrapped power batteries that are about to enter the market, it is still a drop in the bucket. Generally speaking, the recycling subject is still in a state of absence. Therefore, both the market size and processing technology need time to be improved. However, a common view in the industry is that controlling the quality and safety of retired batteries is a difficult point in the recycling technology. Relevant testing technologies and equipment must be developed to accurately determine whether retired batteries can enter the recycling market and determine the application scenarios.
