How to judge whether a car battery is good or bad, and what are the predictions?

  1. How to judge the quality of car batteries

  1. Through the detection of automobile battery electrolyte level height

The electrolyte level can be checked with a glass tube. Under normal circumstances, the electrolyte level should be 10~15mm higher than the plate. The liquid level of the new battery can be observed through the height indicator line on the side. The electrolyte is insufficient and the drop in the liquid level is confirmed to be caused by splashing of the electrolyte.

Distilled water should be added below.

  2. Detect the degree of discharge through electrolyte density

The degree of discharge can be roughly estimated by measuring the density of the electrolyte. Under normal circumstances, every 0.01g/cm2 decrease in the density of the electrolyte is equivalent to 6% battery discharge. Note: The measured density of the electrolyte needs to be converted into a density value at 25°C for judgment.

  3. Determine the quality of the battery by detecting the discharge level of the battery

①Static electromotive force detection to determine whether the battery is good or bad

If the battery has just been charged or the car has just been driven, the high beam should be turned on for 30 seconds to eliminate the "superficial" phenomenon, then turn off the headlights and cut off all loads. As shown in Figure 1.3, use a multimeter to measure the open circuit electromotive force of the battery. If the rated voltage is 12V and the measured voltage is less than 12V, it means that the battery is over-discharged; if it is measured between 12.2 and 12.5V, it means that it is partially discharged; if it is higher than 12.5V, it means that the battery has sufficient power.

② Load test to determine whether the battery is good or bad

The best way to test the performance of lead-acid batteries is the load test, which requires the battery to be tested to store at least 75% of the electricity. If the density of the electrolyte is lower than 1.22g/cm2, and the static electromotive force measured with a multimeter is less than 12.4V, it should be fully charged first. for testing.

  2. Three signs before car battery failure

  1. The car battery indicator light comes on or a bulge occurs.

This is the most common sign and the most intuitive sign. When the car battery fault indicator light on the car dashboard lights up, we car owners must pay attention. As long as the fault light is on, it means that the car battery has failed, or you find that the car battery is bulging. Generally speaking, there are two reasons for battery bulging. The first is long-term charging, and the second is battery exhaust. The hole is blocked, which is a fault of the battery. At this time, you need to take the car to a repair shop for repair. If it needs to be replaced, it must be replaced in time to avoid accidents during future driving!

  2. Dim the light of the headlights

As we all know, the power supply for the headlights, brake lights, audio and other energized equipment on the car comes from the car's battery. If we find that the light of the car's headlights becomes very dim, or if we find that the light of the brake lights is very weak when braking, it means that your car battery is about to expire. Because when idling, the charging power of the car decreases, causing the battery to be unable to provide the corresponding voltage, thus causing these lights to dim.

  3. Difficulty starting the car

Difficulty starting the car is also one of the important symptoms of car battery failure. If the car owner can start the vehicle normally but suddenly finds it difficult to start the car, it means there is a problem with the car's battery. It may be close to being scrapped and can no longer supply power to the car normally. At this time, car owners must replace the battery, otherwise the car will not be able to drive normally!
