The most important component of Ni-MH battery packs is the battery management system, which is an important link between Ni-MH battery packs and electric vehicle. The basic functions of battery management system are divided into three parts: detection, management and protection. Specifically, it includes data acquisition, status monitoring, balance control, thermal management, safety protection and other functions. Function 1: Thermal management
The important function of battery management system in thermal management is to accurately measure and monitor the temperature of Ni-MH battery packs. When the battery temperature is too high, effective heat dissipation and ventilation can ensure the uniform distribution of battery temperature field. Under low temperature conditions, it can be heated quickly to make the battery pack work normally.
Function 2: Balance control
Balance management helps to maintain the capacity of Ni-MH battery packs and control the depth of discharge. If there is no balance control of Ni-MH battery packs, because of the protection function setting of battery management system, it will happen that when one battery is fully charged, other batteries are not fully charged or discharged when the minimum charge limit of a single battery is not reached. Once the Ni-MH battery packs is overcharged or over-discharged, an irreversible chemical reaction will occur inside the Ni-MH battery packs, affecting the properties of the Ni-MH battery packs and thus affecting the service life of the Ni-MH battery packs.
Function 3: State monitoring
The state analysis of power lithium-ion batteries mainly includes two aspects: the remaining battery power and the degree of battery aging, namely SOC evaluation and SOH evaluation. SOC allows the driver to obtain direct information about the impact of the remaining power on the range. At present, many studies have focused on SOC analysis to improve its accuracy. The analysis of SOC will be affected by SOH, and the SOH of power lithium-ion batteries will be continuously affected by factors such as temperature and current during use, so it is necessary to continuously analyze to ensure the accuracy of SOC analysis.
Function 4: Data collection
Data collection is the basis and premise of other functions of the battery management system. The accuracy and speed of data collection can reflect the advantages and disadvantages of the battery management system. Based on the collected data, other functions of the management system, such as SOC state analysis, balancing management, thermal management, etc., are analyzed and processed.
Function 5: Safety protection
Safety protection is the most important function in the entire battery management system, which is achieved on the basis of the first four functions. Important protections include overcurrent protection, overcharge and overdischarge protection, overtemperature protection and insulation monitoring.
