　　During the study, Amine and other researchers extracted particles from nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) cathode material and wrapped them in a sulfur-containing polymer called PEDOT. This polymer provides a layer of protection for the positive electrode from the battery's electrolyte as the battery charges and discharges.

　　Traditional coatings only protect the surface of μm-sized cathode particles, making them prone to cracking internally. But the PEDOT coating can penetrate the inside of the cathode particles, adding an extra layer of shielding.

　　In addition, the PEDOT polymer prevents the chemical reaction between the cathode material and the electrolyte, while also allowing the transport of lithium ions and electrons.
