For example, in an electric vehicle, the lithium ion battery may allow for a longer driving range.
The weight difference between the two types of batteries is also significant. Lead acid batteries are much heavier due to the use of lead plates and a large amount of electrolyte. A 100 amp lead acid battery can weigh several times more than a 100 amp lithium ion battery. This extra weight can be a disadvantage in applications where portability is important, such as in small electric vehicles or portable power tools. It can also increase the energy consumption required to move the battery powered device.

This makes them a more accessible option for users on a tight budget. Additionally, lead acid batteries are more tolerant of over discharging and over charging to a certain extent, which can be an advantage in some less sophisticated applications.
