The weight difference between the two types of batteries is also significant. Lead acid batteries are much heavier due to the use of lead plates and a large amount of electrolyte. A 100 amp lead acid battery can weigh several times more than a 100 amp lithium ion battery. This extra weight can be a disadvantage in applications where portability is important, such as in small electric vehicles or portable power tools. It can also increase the energy consumption required to move the battery powered device.
Lifespan is another important factor. Lithium ion batteries typically have a much longer lifespan. This means that over time, the cost of replacing a lead acid battery will be much higher than that of a lithium ion battery.

They can accept a higher charging current without significant damage, which reduces the charging time. Lead acid batteries, on the other hand, require a more controlled and slower charging process to avoid over charging and damage to the battery.
However, lead acid batteries are more affordable upfront. The initial purchase price of a 100 amp lead acid battery is usually much lower than that of a 100 amp lithium ion battery. This makes them a more accessible option for users on a tight budget. Additionally, lead acid batteries are more tolerant of over discharging and over charging to a certain extent, which can be an advantage in some less sophisticated applications.
