Through a joint development agreement, Wanxiang 123 and Ionic Materials have developed an industry-first innovative approach to manufacturing all-solid-state batteries. This will accelerate the commercialization of this technology. By combining Ionic Materials' advanced conductive ionic polymers with A123's next-generation ternary/graphite lithium-ion chemistry, Wanxiang 123 and Ionic Materials jointly developed a product with high energy density, high safety and no use Batteries with flammable liquid electrolytes. By not using special electrodes such as metallic lithium, all-solid-state batteries with solid polymer electrolytes will be brought to market faster.
This innovation enables the mass production of full-size all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries and achieves the goals of safer, lighter and simpler electric vehicles with the highest cost-effectiveness. Energy storage market applications could also benefit from this technology, reducing or even eliminating the need for cooling and fire suppression. This unique approach allows all-solid-state batteries to be brought to market in 2022.
