Microvast Power’s three passenger car batteries are not enough, you might say. Can it be more powerful and charge faster? In this regard, Guo Shengchang, director of Microvast battery system design, said that Microvast Power’s previous products have stronger fast charging capabilities, but the products developed based on the operational needs of the passenger car market take into account the characteristics of low cost, standardization, and diversified performance. . For the future, new material systems for power batteries that can significantly increase energy density have not yet been commercialized. Moreover, the increase in energy density often has a negative impact on fast charging capabilities. The Chongqing Lifan pure electric passenger car using Microvast power cells has a battery system energy density of 160Wh/kg and a cruising range of 400km. According to the new subsidy policy in 2019, the above two models are within the scope of national subsidies and can receive subsidies of 14,400 and 25,000 respectively. Lifan electric cars equipped with Microvast fast-charging batteries have been supplied by Changan and Lifan, which means that Microvast power batteries have achieved a breakthrough in business. Guo Shengchang said that such a battery can support a driving range of 400 kilometers and basically compete with fuel vehicles. The 48Ah product is suitable for online car-hailing and taxis. The system energy density can also reach 140wh/kg, which is above a certain cruising range. It can also be charged quickly to meet the operation of online car-hailing and taxis. The 44Ah product is used in taxis with higher operating mileage. It can be quickly charged from 0% to 80% in 20 minutes and 100% in 30 minutes, which can meet the needs of all-weather operations. Guo Shengchang believes that these three products have different power densities and energy densities, but the same size. They are all VDA sizes, suitable for the operational needs of the passenger car market, and take into account the characteristics of low cost, standardization, and diversified performance. 3Higher energy and faster charging? In the future, Microvast Power will continue to work hard on batteries with relatively high specific energy and relatively fast charging capabilities. According to the information previously disclosed by the person in charge of Microvast Power, in the fourth quarter of 2020, Microvast Power also plans to mass-produce products with a capacity of 300wh/kg, 1C charge and discharge, and a cycle life of more than 1,200 times. By the fourth quarter of 2021, Microvast plans to launch 350wh/kg, which can charge 40% of the power in the mid-range SOC in 15 minutes at a 4C rate, with a cycle life of more than 800 times. These two products use ternary + silicon carbon negative electrode materials. As for new material systems that will increase energy density over a larger span in the future, Guo Shengchang said it remains to be seen. Due to the pursuit of high specific energy, generally speaking, it will have a negative impact on fast charging energy. Therefore, Micromacro Power's product direction will still be to have both energy density and power density while striving for low cost.
