Discussion on the Effect of Gel Content on the Discharge Performance of Alkaline Batteries
Gel refers to the homogeneous, suspension or emulsion-type latex thick liquid or semi-solid preparation made of medicine and suitable auxiliary materials. Add a certain amount of gelling agent to the negative electrode zinc paste of alkaline zinc-manganese batteries, so that the zinc powder in the zinc paste and the electrolyte form a stable and evenly dispersed paste, ensuring that there is sufficient electrolyte on the surface of the zinc powder particles when the battery is discharged Covering, and can prevent the uneven settlement of zinc powder and electrolyte. In addition, the gelling agent can also promote the contact between the zinc powder and the zinc powder and the current collector, and improve the occurrence of abnormal voltage drop when the battery is subjected to vibration and in use. While the gelling agent has many advantages above, it will also hinder the free movement of ions in the electrolyte, reducing the mass transfer performance of the zinc paste electrode. Alkaline batteries were made from zinc pastes with different contents of gelling agent, and were subjected to 5mA and 10mA discharge tests at room temperature with battery discharge detection equipment, and the discharge termination voltage was set to 1V. As a result, we found that too much or too little gelling agent added hinders the best discharge performance of the battery. The amount of gel added is too small. Although the discharge voltage of the battery is relatively high in the early and middle stages of discharge, the voltage begins to drop suddenly in the middle and late stages, resulting in a short discharge time. If the amount of gelling agent added is too much, the constant current discharge voltage of the battery is low, which is caused by the poor diffusion of reactants or products or the uneven contact of zinc powder particles. The discharge performance reaches the best.
