Lithium ion polymer batteries are evolved from lithium ion batteries. The main difference is that the electrolyte of lithium salt in the battery is organic solution used by solid polymers such as polyethylene glycol or polypropylene, not lithium -ion battery. Lithium cluster batteries have the advantages of lowering the possibility of lower manufacturing costs, more flexible packaging shape selection, reliability, and durability compared with the lithium -ion battery. The disadvantage is that its charging capacity is small. Lithium clustering batteries first appeared in consumer electronics products in 1995.
The commercial lithium clustering battery produced today is a flexible soft -film -type layer -type compression packaging, which is different from the cylindrical lithium ion battery with a metal hard shell. The hard shell of the lithium -ion battery needs to provide pressure to fix the insulating body and the electrode, while the lithium poly packaging is stacked on each other because the electrode and the insulator do not need such pressure (mostly do not need). Due to the lack of metal hard shells, such battery packs can be reduced by 20%compared with the hard battery itself.
The voltage of the lithium polycatic battery changes between 2.7 volts (complete) to about 4.23 volts (complete charging). In order to prevent overcharges, the voltage of each battery is limited to 4.235 volts when the lithium -ion battery is packed in series.
In the early stages of development, there was a problem with high internal resistance. Other restrictions also include, with longer charging time and low maximum discharge capabilities compared to existing batteries. In December 2007, Toshiba released a new design that can be charged faster. Such a product is expected to greatly change the market structure of existing consumer electronics, electric tools and electric vehicles when it is listed in May 2008. The recent development has made the maximum discharge current from about 2 times the capacity (in the units of ampere hours) to 65 or even 90 times, and in turn, it has also achieved the goal of rapid charging.

In recent years, it has been declared that the battery can complete 1,000 repetitive charging circles before the capacity of 80%of the decline, which is better than 300-500 times of lithium-ion batteries, but it emphasizes 100%completely discharge for 100%discharge. The loss is the largest. According to the maintenance instructions of the manufacturer, if only 85%of the amount of discharge leaves some margin each time, the attenuation slowdown will be further slowed down.
