Protection Mechanisms of BMS Lithium Battery Protection Board

  The Battery Management System (BMS) lithium battery protection board has several crucial protection mechanisms. One of the main functions is overcharge protection. When the battery is being charged and the voltage reaches a preset upper limit, the BMS will intervene to stop or reduce the charging current. This is vital as overcharging can cause the lithium ions in the battery to deposit irregularly on the electrodes, leading to reduced battery capacity, increased internal resistance, and in severe cases, a risk of thermal runaway and potential safety hazards such as fire or explosion.

  Over-discharge protection is also essential. If the battery voltage drops too low during discharge, the BMS will cut off the power output to prevent damage to the battery cells. Deep over-discharge can cause irreversible changes in the battery's chemical structure, shortening its lifespan and reducing its performance. Additionally, the BMS provides short-circuit protection. In the event of a short circuit in the battery or the connected circuit, the protection board can quickly disconnect the battery to limit the extremely high current that could cause rapid heating and potential damage. Temperature protection is another important aspect. The BMS monitors the battery temperature using sensors. If the temperature exceeds safe limits, either due to high ambient temperature during charging/discharging or internal heat generation, the BMS will take appropriate actions such as reducing the current or shutting down the battery until the temperature returns to a safe range. This helps maintain the integrity and safety of the lithium battery.
