When it comes to solid-state batteries, you may feel a little strange. Strictly speaking, lithium batteries at this stage should be called liquid lithium batteries, because one of the core battery materials is liquid electrolyte (also called electrolyte).
The lithium battery using solid electrolyte is called solid state lithium battery, or solid state battery for short. It is obvious that the two structures are different.
The traditional lithium battery consists of four materials: positive pole, negative pole, electrolyte and diaphragm. Solid state batteries replace electrolyte and separator with solid electrolyte, and others are similar.
For lithium batteries, safety comes first. However, the safety of traditional liquid lithium batteries has long been questioned by the market.
Recently, the State Administration of Market Supervision released the Notice on the National Recall of Automobile and Consumer Goods in 2021. The report shows that 59 new energy vehicle recalls will be implemented in 2021, involving 830000 vehicles, accounting for 9.5% of the total number of recalls in the year; The number and number of new energy vehicle recalls increased by 31.1% and 75.9% year on year respectively.

The main cause of lithium battery fire is electrolyte. Under the existing technical conditions, the electrolyte provides a place for lithium ions to "swim" in the battery.
However, electrolyte is very sensitive to temperature. It is easy to decompose under high temperature, highly corrosive, flammable and easy to leak. In particular, lithium precipitation reaction is very easy to cause short circuit.
Once the short circuit occurs, the local temperature rises sharply, reaching the ignition point of the liquid electrolyte inside the lithium battery, which leads to fire and even explosion.
