1. When the temperature is low, the charging current of lithium batteries decreases and the capacity of lithium batteries decays.
The main reason is that during the storage of the battery, the water in the battery cell and electrolyte, as well as the oxygen in the air, undergo oxidation reactions, causing lithium ions to undergo delithification reactions, releasing more positive electrode materials and decreasing activity. So at low temperatures, the charging current of lithium batteries is relatively small.
Because the internal temperature of the battery is relatively high at high temperatures, this leads to an increase in the internal resistance of the lithium battery cell. The discharge current decreases. The charging current drops from 10-15 A to around 4 A, and the charging speed significantly slows down. But at this moment, it will not have a significant impact on the functionality of lithium batteries. Actually, it will not decrease its functionality, but instead increase the battery capacity and lifespan! What if we don't discover it in time? Please be sure to pay attention! One is to regularly charge and care for lithium batteries to prevent the occurrence of over discharge caused by insufficient battery power.
The second is to check if there is any change in the charging current during operation (especially at the charging port). 2. The decrease in activity of the electrolyte leads to a decrease in charge
Electrolyte can generate many active substances at low temperatures, and the decomposition of these active substances will release a lot of water and volatile gases, leading to the inability of the electrolyte to operate normally. There is an imbalance in surface tension between lithium ions and active materials.
These active substances will scatter the active molecules towards the surrounding area, causing damage to the electrode structure, and causing chemical and redox reactions between the active molecules and the electrolyte. Hydrogen bonding effects can easily occur between the active molecules and the electrolyte, generating many hydrophilic molecules that have strong adsorption abilities. Once the adsorption of active molecules can weaken, the transfer of charge cannot be guaranteed.
