Batteries also include a casing, connectors, and sometimes thermal management systems. Key differences lie in their roles: cells are raw energy sources, while batteries are ready-to-use systems with safety and regulatory features. Cells cannot be directly used in most devices due to their lack of protection, whereas batteries are engineered for specific applications, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Additionally, batteries often combine cells in series (to increase voltage) or parallel (to increase capacity). For instance, a 12V lithium battery might consist of four 3.7V cells in series, while a high-capacity power bank may use multiple cells in parallel to boost runtime.
