1. Improvement of safety performance
The P-O bond in Lithium iron phosphate crystal is stable and difficult to decompose. Even at high temperature or overcharge, it will not collapse and heat or form strong oxidizing substances like lithium cobalt oxide, so it has good safety.
Reports have pointed out that in actual operations, a small number of samples were found to have combustion phenomena during needle puncture or short-circuit experiments, but no explosion event occurred. However, in overcharging experiments, high voltage charging was used that greatly exceeded its own discharge voltage several times, and it was found that there was still an explosion phenomenon.
Nevertheless, its overcharging safety has been greatly improved compared to ordinary liquid electrolyte lithium cobalt oxide batteries.
2. Improvement in lifespan
Lithium iron phosphate battery is a kind of lithium ion battery which uses Lithium iron phosphate as cathode material.
The cycle life of long-life lead-acid battery is about 300 times, and the maximum is 500 times. The cycle life of Lithium iron phosphate power battery is more than 2000 times, and the standard charging (5 hour rate) can reach 2000 times. The lead-acid battery of the same quality is "new half year, old half year, and maintenance half year", which is only 1~1.5 years at most, while the Lithium iron phosphate battery will have a theoretical life of 7~8 years when used under the same conditions.
Overall, the performance price ratio is more than 4 times that of lead-acid batteries in theory. High current discharge can quickly charge and discharge at high current 2C. With a dedicated charger, the battery can be fully charged within 40 minutes at 1.5C, and the starting current can reach 2C. However, lead-acid batteries do not have this performance.
3. Good high-temperature performance
The peak electric heating temperature of Lithium iron phosphate can reach 350 ℃ -500 ℃, while that of lithium manganate and lithium cobalate is only about 200 ℃. The working temperature range is wide (-20C -+75C), and Lithium iron phosphate has high temperature resistance. 4. Large capacity
It has a larger capacity than ordinary batteries (such as lead-acid). The monomer capacity is 5AH-1000AH.
5. No memory effect
When rechargeable batteries work under the condition that they are always fully charged, their capacity will quickly fall below the Nameplate capacity. This phenomenon is called memory effect. For example, Ni MH and Nickel–cadmium battery have memory, but Lithium iron phosphate battery has no such phenomenon. No matter what state the battery is in, it can be charged at any time without having to discharge before charging.
