Japan's main line of research and development for all-solid-state batteries has gradually shifted from the initial exploration of high-performance electrolyte materials to solving issues such as trial production of battery cells, development of manufacturing processes, and charge and discharge cycle life. Research focus has entered the stage of trying to develop appropriate combinations of positive and negative electrode materials according to different applications, and trying to develop manufacturing processes to achieve large-scale mass production.

From the perspective of technical paths, the technical paths chosen by these start-up companies in the United States are mainly polymer electrolytes and oxide electrolytes, and the negative electrodes mostly use lithium metal.

  03The business community represented by Samsung leads the development of solid-state batteries in South Korea

  On the road of R&D and industrialization of solid-state batteries, South Korea is led by the business community. Under the guidance of government departments, major domestic automotive battery manufacturers jointly develop all-solid-state batteries. At present, the main companies researching solid-state batteries in South Korea include Samsung SDI, LG and Hyundai Motor. Among them, Samsung, LG and SK Innovation chose to establish a joint fund to jointly develop solid-state batteries. Hyundai did not participate in the above three alliances, but chose to enter the solid-state battery industry chain through independent development, cooperation with universities and external investment.
