A brief introduction to Panasonic's mass-produced 2000mah 18650 battery system for home solar power generation

Panasonic Corporation recently announced that it will begin mass production of a compact, 2000mah 18650 battery system for home solar power generation systems this month. The Panasonic battery system includes 1.35kWh components and a battery management system designed to control the charging and discharging of the battery. The system can store excess electricity generated by rooftop solar panels and make it available when people need it, further reducing dependence on grid power supply. The lithium-ion battery has a cycle life of 5,000 times, based on a discharge depth of 80% of the discharge cycle. This is a significant advantage compared to traditional deep-cycle batteries and gel battery technology with a discharge depth of 80% and a cycle life of only 1,500 times. Some households have begun to worry that using solar power systems may cause instability in the local power grid - a potential problem that must be faced, and Panasonic says their system can help avoid such situations. "With our state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology and high-quality battery management systems, we will promote self-consumption of home solar power systems and load reduction during peak hours. Panasonic aims to be at the forefront of solutions for protecting local grid systems." With the reduction of photovoltaic feed-in tariffs in some places, the trend of choosing power generation systems that connect to the grid and store energy for later use is also becoming more popular. As for the cost of the system, it is not known at this point, as the release date for the Australian market will not be known. The system is originally designed to be provided to European households through Panasonic's Smart Energy Systems Division; also part of SANYO Modules Europe's Mobile Energy Division. Panasonic acquired a majority stake in SANYO in 2009 and acquired all remaining shares of common stock in 2010. SANYO's flagship product in renewable energy is the SANYO HIT solar panel.
