  Talk about the characteristics and differences between nickel-cadmium batteries and lithium batteries

  Nickel-cadmium batteries

  I. Characteristics of nickel-cadmium batteries

  1. Nickel-cadmium batteries can be charged and discharged repeatedly for more than 500 times, which is very economical;

  2. The internal resistance is small, and it can be discharged with large current. When it discharges, the voltage changes very little. As a DC power supply, it is a battery of excellent quality;

  3. Because it is completely sealed, there will be no leakage of electrolyte, and there is no need to replenish electrolyte;

  4. Compared with other types of batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries can withstand overcharging or overdischarging, and the operation is simple and convenient;

  5. The performance will not deteriorate even if it is placed for a long time, and the original characteristics can be restored when it is fully charged;

  6. It can be used in a wide temperature range;

  7. Because it is made of metal containers, it has mechanical strength;

  8. Nickel-cadmium batteries are manufactured under very strict quality management and have very good quality reliability.

  2. Discharge characteristics of nickel-cadmium batteries

  1. The discharge voltage varies according to the discharge current, generally around 1.2V;

  2. The capacity of the battery is expressed in Ah, mAh;

  3. When the discharge reaches the end of the discharge limit, it is called the "discharge termination voltage", and the discharge termination voltage of nickel-cadmium batteries is 1.0V/cell;

  4. The operating temperature range is -20℃~60℃, and discharge can be performed within this range.

  3. Precautions for storage

  1. It can be stored in the temperature range of -30℃~50℃, but if it is stored for a long time, please store it below 35℃;

  2. It is possible to store it in the charged state or the discharged state, but in comparison, the discharged state can make the capacity recover earlier and be easier to activate;

  3. When the battery is stored for a long time, it must be fully charged before use.

  4. Memory effect of nickel-cadmium battery When nickel-cadmium battery is repeatedly discharged and charged at low capacity several times, if a larger amount of discharge is required, the battery will not work. This situation is called "memory effect". Memory effect may be the most misunderstood problem of nickel-cadmium battery. The discharge termination voltage is set higher. As the voltage used becomes lower, it seems to decrease on the surface. However, the low discharge voltage can be solved by 1-2 full discharges. It is recommended to discharge once after ten charges to prevent memory effect.

  AG13 battery

  I. Characteristics of AG13 battery:

  1. High energy density, 1.5 times the volume energy and 2 times the weight energy density of high-capacity nickel-cadmium battery;

  2. High voltage, the average operating voltage is 3.6V, which is 3 times that of nickel-cadmium battery and nickel-metal hydride battery (the voltage of nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride battery is 1.2V);

  3. Flat operating voltage and high capacity;

  4. Load characteristics, 2C discharge is possible;

  5. Wide range of operating temperature -20℃60℃ 6. Excellent charge and discharge life, after 500 discharges, its capacity is at least 70%.

  Differences between nickel-metal hydride battery and AG13 battery:

  I. Weight In terms of the voltage of each unit battery, nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium are both 1.2V, while AG13 battery is 3.6V, and the voltage of AG13 battery is 3 times that of the other two. And the weight of AG13 battery and nickel-cadmium battery of the same type of battery is almost the same, while nickel-nickel-metal hydride battery is heavier. It can be seen that the weight of each battery itself is different, but the AG13 battery has a high voltage of 3.6V. When the output voltage is the same, the number of single batteries can be reduced by one-third, which reduces the weight and volume of the formed battery.

  2. Memory effect Nickel-metal hydride batteries have the same memory effect as nickel-cadmium batteries. Therefore, regular discharge management is also necessary. This regular discharge management is handled in a vague state, and some are even discharged under incorrect knowledge (each discharge or discharge after several uses varies from company to company). This cumbersome discharge management is unavoidable when using nickel-metal hydride batteries. Relatively speaking, lithium batteries have no memory effect at all, so they are very convenient and simple to use. It does not need to care about the residual voltage at all, and can be charged directly, so the charging time can naturally be shortened.

  3. Self-discharge rate Nickel-cadmium batteries are 15-30% (months). Nickel-metal hydride batteries are 25-35% (months), and lithium batteries are 2-5% (months). The self-discharge rate of the above NiMH batteries is the highest, while the specialty of lithium batteries is that the discharge rate is extremely low compared to the other two types of batteries.

  IV. Charging method NiMH batteries and lithium batteries cannot withstand overcharging. Therefore, the best charging method for NiMH batteries is to stop charging when the charging voltage reaches the highest point using the PICK CUT control method of constant current charging. For lithium batteries, it is best to charge them using the constant current and constant voltage method. If they are charged using the NiCd battery charger-DV control method, it will be bad for NiMH batteries and lithium batteries.
