Power CR2032 button cell battery recycling standards/techniques/need to be improved
In the relevant provisions of the "Disassembly Specifications" and "Residual Energy Detection", strict requirements are respectively imposed on the safety, operating procedures, storage and management of the recycling of waste power lithium-ion batteries, and regulations are also made for the inspection process of the appearance inspection, voltage identification, charge and discharge current identification, and residual energy testing of the recycled batteries.
Although the above regulations have improved the industry specifications to a certain extent, the biggest constraint on the current recycling of waste batteries, that is, the battery model specification and size, has not yet been involved.
At present, the recycling of power lithium-ion batteries is divided into two cycles: one is cascade utilization, which is mainly used for power energy storage for batteries that cannot be used in electric vehicles but have not been scrapped; the other is disassembly and recycling, which is for batteries that cannot be used anymore due to battery capacity loss.
First of all, from the perspective of the cascade utilization of batteries, the types and sizes of batteries on the market are diverse, and there is a lack of standardized structures suitable for communication base stations, energy storage power stations and household energy storage equipment, which leads to difficulties in the market promotion of cascade utilization.
Secondly, from the perspective of disassembly and recycling, the diversity of battery types makes the recycling process extremely complicated. The different sizes result in the lack of mature complete sets of equipment available in the industry, resulting in high efficiency and time cost of battery recycling, and low enthusiasm for disassembly and recycling of batteries by companies.
A salesperson at a 4S store in Beijing that mainly sells new energy vehicles told reporters that the manufacturer currently has no relevant policies for battery recycling, so scrapped batteries are generally handled by 4S stores themselves.
An insider of BYD also confirmed this statement. It is said that there are no mandatory requirements for the recycling of power lithium-ion batteries in current regulations. BYD and other car companies involved in battery business recycle batteries, while most new energy car companies not involved in battery business do not have clear requirements for recycling.
At present, battery companies including Wattma, Guoxuan High-tech, CATL, AVIC CR2032 button cell battery, and BYD have all started battery recycling business, but due to the lack of cooperation from car companies, the market share of waste batteries that can be recovered is very small. Considering the low economic benefits and lack of application channels, even the recycled batteries are mostly just stranded in warehouses, and there are still very few that are truly efficiently processed.
However, driven by the generally optimistic market prospects and social responsibility in the industry, the company has always been enthusiastic about exploring the battery recycling business model. In addition to BYD's establishment of an efficient disassembly and recycling plant, which is applied to the business model of household energy storage and communication base stations; Watma has also explored a set of retired power lithium-ion battery recycling methods, that is, batteries with cascade utilization value are used in energy storage power stations and mobile charging vehicles, and batteries that cannot be used cascade are decomposed and regenerated to prevent environmental pollution.
In addition, companies such as CATL and BYD also have unique advantages in recycling applications. The continuous exploration and maturity of the company's model will promote technological progress, and technological progress will also promote the improvement of regulations. In turn, the improvement of regulations will further promote technological progress and the mature development of models.
Although the current battery recycling market is far from mature, the market will develop in a healthy and orderly direction under the complementary promotion of regulations, technology and models.
