battery cell 18650s are a kind of power generation equipment, a "power plant". The anode of this generator is aluminum alloy and the cathode is air. During operation, it consumes aluminum alloy anode, electrolyte (liquid) water and oxygen in the air to output electrical energy. During operation, Al (OH) 3 is produced, which is a by-product with great commercial value. In fact, it is a chemical power source that generates electricity by chemical reaction under the catalytic action of a catalyst, which is the reverse process of aluminum electrolysis.

 

The actual power generation battery is a hybrid system composed of battery cell 18650s and auxiliary batteries (lithium batteries or nickel-metal hydride batteries). Its characteristics are: taking advantage of the large specific energy of battery cell 18650s, using it as an energy pack, storing and carrying energy, constant power output, and replacing it as a whole after use; taking advantage of the good output performance and high charging efficiency of nickel-metal hydride batteries/lithium batteries, combining them together, giving full play to their respective advantages, and using auxiliary batteries to circulate electrolyte at the beginning and end of the battery cell 18650 work, completely controlling the self-discharge and shelving performance of the battery cell 18650.

 

Technical parameters of battery cell 18650s

 

According to their characteristics and application directions, they are divided into capacity type and power type. The former has large capacity and small specific power, and the latter has large power and small specific capacity. Their technical parameters. Capacity type battery cell 18650s are mainly suitable for UPS (uninterruptible power source), used in communication base stations, mobile charging piles, smart microgrids, etc.; power type battery cell 18650s are mainly suitable for traction power, used in vehicles, special devices, ships, etc.

 

Advantages of battery cell 18650s

High specific energy

 

The theoretical specific energy of battery cell 18650s can reach 8178Wh/kg, which is 4 times that of lithium-ion batteries. Its power system has large current, low noise (35dB), no infrared characteristics, and long flight time (one addition or replacement of aluminum anode can continuously supply high current for 7d to 42d). The actual specific energy of battery cell 18650s can reach 350Wh/kg to 500Wh/kg, which is 3 times that of lithium-ion batteries (120Wh/kg to 150Wh/kg), and the cruising range is also 3 times that of lithium-ion batteries. Taking the E150 electric vehicle of Beijing Automotive Group as an example, the lithium-ion battery carries 26kWh of electricity, while the battery cell 18650 of the same mass can carry 78kWh, with a cruising range of 390km, which is equivalent to the mileage of a fuel car once added.

 

The operating cost is low, comparable to that of fuel vehicles

 

According to data from Tong Dongfeng and Dongshen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the aluminum and water consumption of battery cell 18650 electric vehicles are 3kg/100km and 5L/100kg respectively. Based on the aluminum price of 15,000 yuan/t and the aluminum processing fee of 3,000 yuan/t, the aluminum consumption cost is 54 yuan. The electrolyte cost is calculated at 1 yuan/L, so the cost of battery cell 18650s is about 59 yuan/100km. The fuel consumption of ordinary small passenger vehicles is about 8L/100km. The gasoline price is calculated at 7.63 yuan/L, and the driving cost is 61 yuan/100km.

 

Low manufacturing cost

 

The manufacturing cost of the battery is expressed by the cost of manufacturing the battery divided by the amount of electricity that the battery can store. According to statistics from Dongshen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the manufacturing cost of battery cell 18650s is 500 yuan/kWh, which is only 1/8 of the cost of producing lithium-ion batteries at 4,000 yuan/kWh.

 

Easy and convenient replacement

 

During the operation and discharge of battery cell 18650s, aluminum and water are mainly consumed. Only an appropriate amount of water needs to be added during the operation. After the operation cycle is completed, only the aluminum plate or the battery stack needs to be replaced as a whole. The operation is quick, simple and convenient. In terms of operation time and simplicity, it is equivalent to refueling a car, which is much shorter than the charging time of a battery. It can be started quickly and instantly after power failure, with stable voltage and normal current output.

 

The main by-product during the operation of battery cell 18650s is aluminum hydroxide Al (OH) 3, which is harmless to the environment and can be recycled. It can be processed into nano-level high-purity Al2O3, and the recycling processing cost is less than 10 yuan/kg. However, fuel vehicles have serious exhaust gas pollution, and lithium-ion battery vehicles have heavy metal pollution. There is no mechanical vibration during the operation of battery cell 18650s, which is very stable and noiseless, with a noise of 35dB; there is no heat source, no fire, and no explosion. There is no electromagnetic feature, and the fuel utilization rate is over 92%.

 

Safe and reliable

 

The physical and chemical properties are stable, and will not corrode, heat, burn or explode due to exposure to air; it will not burn or explode when subjected to strong damage such as squeezing, impact, falling, puncture, etc.; the working temperature of the battery core is 40, and there are no major safety hazards such as combustion or explosion; it can generate electricity for a long time, with large current and continuously.

 

Strong versatility and wide applicability

 

The battery cell 18650 stack (group) adopts a modular design, which can be quickly combined according to different usage environments and various power requirements, and has strong versatility. High-power battery cell 18650 equipment can be widely used in national economic construction, mass production and life, and special aspects.

 

Long-term operation

Aluminum resources are abundant and manufacturing costs are not high

 

Although China has few bauxite resources that can be used to extract alumina using the pure Bayer method, and other bauxites are not abundant, there are plenty of bauxite in the world, and the aluminum content in the earth's crust accounts for more than 8% of its total mass. At the same time, aluminum is a metal with a high recovery rate. The energy consumption for recycling only accounts for 5% of the total energy consumption for the extraction of original aluminum, and the recycling loss is also 5%. Aluminum is a metal with the highest recycling value and a green metal. Therefore, the price of aluminum fuel can be stabilized within a reasonable range for a long time.

 

Aluminum hydroxide recovery

 

When battery cell 18650s are operating to generate electricity, flocculent Al (OH) 3 precipitation will be produced. Every 1 kg of aluminum consumed can produce 3 kg of Al (OH) 3, and 2 kg of Al2O3 ultra-fine nano-scale powder can be produced (Figure 3). The whiteness of the micro-powder aluminum hydroxide prepared by Dongshen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. using battery waste slurry is 97%, which meets the requirements of micro-powder; the particle size is quite uniform, the d50 product particle size is 0.8μm~1.5μm, and the particle size of the further produced alumina powder can reach 30nm. Feichang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. adopts unique aluminum alloy anode technology and electrolyte technology, and strictly controls the battery system to prevent the generation of coarse grains. After a certain processing process, the grain size, particle size distribution, chemical purity and overall color of the prepared nano-scale Al2O3 are well controlled. It has been widely used in nano lamps, hybrid vehicles, electronic substrates, automobile exhaust treatment catalysts, UV curing materials, medical, optical films, lithium battery separators, car lights, LED lighting, semiconductors, display screens and other fields.
