Recently, Jiang Yunhong, a doctoral candidate in the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Xiangda University, under the joint guidance of Professor Ding Yanhuai and Professor Zhang Ping, prepared a pure inorganic sodium titanate battery separator that is flame retardant, high temperature resistant, and resistant to lithium dendrite puncture. The result " "Flexible, nonflammable and Li-dendrite resistant Na2Ti3O7 nanobelt-based separators for advanced Li storage" has been accepted by the Journal of Membrane Science (impact factor: 6.578), an authoritative publication in the field of separators, and has been highly praised by journal editors and reviewers.
This kind of separator is woven from ultra-long nanoribbons. The first characteristic is that it has good flexibility and can be folded repeatedly for more than a hundred times without any adhesive without any damage. The second characteristic is that it has strong stability and can be used in ultrasonic and solvent applications. The structure remains unchanged after being treated under various harsh conditions such as immersion, and the geometric dimensions of the separator do not change after heat treatment at 1000 degrees; the third characteristic is high applicability. The electrochemical window of the sodium titanate separator exceeds 4.2 volts, which can meet the needs of conventional lithium-ion batteries. , batteries assembled with this pure inorganic separator show excellent charge and discharge performance between minus 20 degrees and 75 degrees. Compared with commercial organic separators, pure inorganic separators have greatly enhanced resistance to lithium dendrite puncture and are expected to be applied in high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
In addition, another member of the team, Fan Zhenyu, a 2016 undergraduate student at Hunan University, has also achieved good results in composite separator research. The paper "Sepiolite-based Separator for Advanced Li-Ion Batteries" has been published in the top engineering technology journal Applied. Surface Science (impact factor: 4.439). The composite separator uses Xiangtan sepiolite as the raw material, supplemented by a small amount of polyurethane as the binder. Due to the high porosity and adsorption of sepiolite, the separator has a strong electrolyte adsorption capacity. The use of sepiolite as an inorganic skeleton gives the separator good thermal stability and shows good electrochemistry in lithium-ion batteries. performance.
Ding Yanhuai’s research group has published multiple papers in the field of battery separator research and applied for 4 invention patents, which has had a good impact in the academic world.
