It is understood that the initial stage of this cooperation will be for solid-state lithium batteries for energy storage applications. Huineng Technology provides a production license (Qualcomm-like model): authorizes the production technology of solid-state battery cells with an energy density of approximately 240Wh/kg and Narada Power, and provides It produces the required core equipment and materials, and assists with plant planning and guidance, making Narada the exclusive authorized partner of Huineng in the energy storage market.
A press release issued by both parties stated that by combining Huineng's highly automated solid-state battery mass production technology and Narada Power's accumulation and market resources in the energy storage market, they will expand the production scale of solid-state batteries and jointly industrialize solid-state batteries. They plan to realize energy storage applications. After the commercialization of solid-state batteries, they gradually entered the electric vehicle market, and jointly promoted the development of solid-state batteries in these two major application areas.
Gaogong Lithium Battery has learned that after obtaining Huineng’s technology authorization, Narada Power will build China’s first billion-watt-hour (1 GWh) solid-state battery mass production line.
As one of the first companies in the world to achieve commercial mass production of solid-state lithium batteries, Huineng Technology has made many appearances. Since the release of the technology licensing cooperation plan at the end of 2018, it has attracted many car manufacturers and battery-related companies to discuss cooperation.
Huineng Technology began the commercialization of solid-state batteries in 2013, and successively launched three solid-state lithium battery products, FLCB, PLCB and BLCB, and successively achieved commercial mass production. The new generation battery pack consists of only four battery cells with its own cooling system. It has won international awards such as The US CES Innovation Award and Edison Award are recognized.
In terms of technical advantages, facing the mainstream technologies of thin films, solid polymers, oxides, and sulfides, Huineng chose the oxide system and solved the core issues of solid-state battery safety and performance with the help of lithium ceramic battery technology. The 3D packaging technology released by Huineng Technology, which can halve the volume of new energy vehicle battery packs, reduce the weight by 30%, and reduce the cost by 30%, is also a highlight.
In terms of production capacity, according to Huineng Technology's plan, the expansion of its 1GWh solid-state lithium battery roll production line will be completed by the end of 2019. By then, Huineng's total solid-state battery production capacity will reach 1.5-2GWh, becoming the world's first solid-state battery factory to jump to 1.5GWh production scale. After the 1GWh demonstration line runs smoothly, it will plan to expand production capacity to 3.2GWh in stages.
Previously, Huineng Technology planned to license patented technology and production equipment for mass production through a business model similar to Qualcomm. Battery manufacturers and car companies can be authorized targets, thereby shortening the time for industrial research and development of solid-state batteries. This cooperation with Narada Power has once again opened up new application areas for its products.
