German companies cooperate to research the next generation of 16340 battery

 

Today, major companies around the world are increasing their investment in 16340 battery, which means that a new generation of high-energy batteries for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles has begun to be developed. Under the leadership of BASF Future Business GmbH, 18 partners from the fields of industry and science have jointly started the project called "HE-Lion" to develop more efficient and safer 16340 battery and promote them on the market in the next four to six years. The German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is supporting the HE-Lion project with 21 million euros in the innovation alliance "Lithium Ionen Batterie LIB 2015". "This alliance is necessary to strengthen Germany's innovative position. In this development process, we must achieve decisive breakthroughs in battery materials as early as possible. This will reduce the cost of batteries," said Andreas Kreimeyer, member of the board of directors of BAS and spokesman for the development project. * The first and second generation 16340 battery are already maturely used in laptops, smartphones, and digital cameras, while the third and fourth generation 16340 battery are developed for more stable systems. The decisive factors for success are whether the new battery is safe, efficient and reasonably priced. We strive to increase the energy density by two to five times that of existing batteries. This will increase the driving distance of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles to an acceptable level. BASF, Freudenberg Vliesstoffe and SGL Carbon are responsible for material research and development. Battery technology is provided by Fraunhofer Institut Itzehoe, Gaia, Leclanché and Bosch. Car design is handed over to Volkswagen and energy group EnBW, so that high-energy batteries can be integrated into the energy supply system. Universities in Berlin, Bonn, Clausthal, Darmstadt, Giessen, Hannover, Münster and other places, as well as Paul-Scherrer College in Switzerland and Leibniz students in Dresden cooperate to carry out basic theoretical research.
