"Hydrogen energy is becoming an important direction of the global energy technology revolution and an integral part of the future energy strategies of various countries." On October 23, Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, held the 3rd International Hydrogen Energy and Technology Conference in Rugao, Jiangsu. It was stated at the Fuel Cell Vehicle Conference that my country will continue to promote the development of hydrogen energy vehicles in the future. Even if the state's subsidies for pure electric vehicles are completely withdrawn in 2020, subsidies for hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicles will continue.
As one of the technological paths for new energy vehicles, hydrogen energy vehicles have currently attracted attention around the world. As hydrogen technology continues to mature, China's hydrogen energy layout has also entered a new stage.
Trillion output value expected
The advantages of hydrogen fuel cells include long driving range, high power, short refueling time and zero pollution. Therefore, many people in the industry believe that hydrogen energy vehicles will be an important direction for the development of new energy vehicles.
Sunita SATYAPL, director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Fuel Cell Office, predicts that by 2030, at least one in 10 vehicles will be a hydrogen vehicle. Honda Chief Researcher Takashi Moritani also believes that by 2030, hydrogen energy vehicles will account for 50% of new energy vehicles.
At present, my country's fuel cell vehicle market, which is dominated by commercial vehicles, has exceeded 1,000 units. Data show that a total of 1,098 hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles were sold in my country in 2017, with the operating area ranging from Liaoning in Northeast China to Foshan in Guangdong. In the hydrogen energy demonstration city Rugao, Jiangsu, the country's first hydrogen fuel bus line has been opened. In addition, in terms of hydrogen energy infrastructure construction, my country currently has 10 hydrogen refueling stations in operation and more than 20 under construction.
"By 2030, the output value of my country's hydrogen energy vehicle industry is expected to exceed one trillion yuan." said Li Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the China Society of Automotive Engineers.
In order to further promote the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cells, Wan Gang said that in the future, my country will focus on promoting the commercial demonstration application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, but it must scientifically plan the layout and demonstrate low-carbon and low-cost hydrogen energy production methods according to local conditions, especially We should pay attention to the demonstration effect of hydrogenation energy and fuel cell vehicles.
High cost is the biggest obstacle
At present, many car companies are developing hydrogen energy vehicles. According to incomplete statistics, multinational car companies including Toyota, Honda, Hyundai Motor and others have already taken action in the field of hydrogen fuel. At the beginning of this year, Hyundai Motor NEXO was officially launched, with a driving range of 609 kilometers and hydrogenation in only 5 minutes. Domestically, SAIC Maxus, Yutong Bus, Zhongtong Bus, BYD, etc. are also actively exploring, such as the hydrogen fuel launched by SAIC Maxus The battery vehicle FCV80 has achieved commercial operation.
At the same time, infrastructure construction such as hydrogen refueling stations is also part of the layout of car companies. For example, on October 24, Great Wall Motors announced that it would invest in H2 MOBILITY, the world's leading German hydrogen refueling station operator, becoming the company's seventh largest shareholder, holding the same level of shares as Daimler.
Although many car companies are optimistic about the future of hydrogen energy vehicles, resistance to their development still exists, and the road to commercialization of hydrogen fuel is still long. At present, the biggest challenge to the commercialization of hydrogen fuel vehicles is the construction of hydrogen refueling stations.
Data show that as of the end of 2017, a total of 328 hydrogenation stations have been built around the world, including 139 in Europe, 118 in Asia, and 68 in North America. However, only 10 hydrogenation stations are currently in operation in my country.
In addition, how to make hydrogen refueling stations profitable is also a big problem. It is understood that a three-level hydrogenation station in Jiangqiao, Jiading, Shanghai, has a project investment of up to 11 million yuan. Comprehensive data after five months of operation show that the cost of hydrogen accounts for 65.2% of the operating cost of the hydrogenation station. According to its staff: " Hydrogen refueling stations are still a long way from being profitable."
In order to solve this problem, many people in the industry believe that the construction of hydrogen refueling stations in the current market environment can be based on the original CNG filling stations and gas stations, through reconstruction, expansion, and joint construction to reduce the construction of hydrogen refueling stations. costs, or subsidizing hydrogen refueling stations through profits from gas stations or related businesses.
