According to Xiao Yang, director of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control at the School of Automotive Engineering of Jilin University, incomplete statistical results show that so far, a total of 79 electric vehicle safety accidents have occurred in my country this year, involving 96 vehicles, of which, 58% of accidents are caused by batteries spontaneously, and the remaining accidents are caused by collisions, circuit failures, moisture and water immersion, etc. Xiao Yang believes that one of the reasons for the frequent accidents of electric vehicles is the excessive pursuit of energy density. He said bluntly: "Under the premise that the space for automobile products is limited, the quality of the entire vehicle needs to be continuously reduced. One of the important ways to increase the driving range is to increase the energy density of the 18650 battery pack."

Xiong Rui, a professor at the Department of Vehicle Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology, pointed out that from the existing literature, the current main research focuses on overcharging and internal short circuits, but in fact external short circuits are involved in 26% of 18650 battery pack safety accidents, which deserves further attention. .
