American university discovers new technology: Hydrogen and oxygen mixed to produce electricity that can power 18650 lithium battery 2600mah vehicles of various sizes

A group of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMassLowell) in the United States has discovered a new and more efficient way to power electric vehicles.

According to foreign media reports, a group of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMassLowell) in the United States has discovered a new and more efficient way to power electric vehicles. This innovative technology was developed by Professor David Ryan, head of the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with a group of students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, allowing electric vehicles of various sizes to travel longer distances while maintaining zero emissions. This new technology uses water, carbon dioxide and metal cobalt to produce hydrogen on demand at relatively low temperatures and pressures.

Professor David Ryan said that most electric vehicles on the road currently rely on rechargeable batteries, but batteries have limitations in storage capacity, charging time and cost. Therefore, current technology is only suitable for small cars, not large vehicles such as trucks and buses. In contrast, the new technology developed by the team at the University of Massachusetts Lowell can power electric vehicles of various sizes.

The researchers' experimental setup consists of a stainless steel tank filled with cobalt, into which a carbonate solution made of carbon dioxide and water is pumped, which is then heated to about 150 degrees and compressed to 45 pounds per inch. In this case, the metal cobalt is not the catalyst, but the cobalt carbonate is the catalyst. The carbonate solution converts the metal cobalt into cobalt oxide, and the conversion process produces hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The hydrogen is then injected directly into the 18650 lithium battery 2600mah of the electric vehicle, where it mixes with oxygen in the air to produce electricity and water, which can power the system to control the car's motor, rechargeable battery and headlights.

Despite the many advantages of hydrogen fuel technology, the technology has not been widely used due to safety concerns due to the high flammability of the gas. Ryan said: "The process does not store any hydrogen, so it is very safe, does not cause transportation problems, and greatly reduces the possibility of fire or explosion. Moreover, the hydrogen produced by this technology is more than 95% pure. Burning hydrogen is very clean and does not produce carbon dioxide, only water. Hydrogen is used in 18650 lithium battery 2600mahs, where it combines with oxygen in the air to produce electricity with an efficiency of up to 85%."

Once the cobalt metal in the tank is used up, it is converted into cobalt oxide. Drivers need to replace a new tank every 300 to 400 miles. The cobalt metal in the old tank is then regenerated using renewable energy such as wind or solar power.

According to industry observers, the hydrogen market value is expected to grow to about $199 billion (about 133.69 billion yuan) in the next four years due to the growing demand for green energy.

Ryan said: "Unlike fossil fuels, which need to be mined or pumped out from the ground, hydrogen must be produced artificially. Current methods of producing hydrogen are expensive and inefficient, and the lack of necessary infrastructure has hindered the transition from an oil economy to a hydrogen economy. We hope that the catalytic hydrogen technology we have developed can help solve all these challenges."

The researchers have obtained a provisional patent for the technology and are still waiting for the full patent for the technology. In addition to receiving support from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the research team also received a $25,000 (approximately RMB 167,955) seed fund from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to help promote this innovative technology from the laboratory to the market.
