  Currently, wireless charging technology is competing with traditional wired charging systems for charging speed and efficiency. Although wireless charging equipment at this stage is mainly aimed at home users or electric buses, it will gradually be extended to all types of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and even self-driving cars in the future.

  At this stage, the scale of the wireless electric vehicle charging (WEVC) market is still very limited, mainly coming from secondary market consumption after consumers purchase cars and a small number of electric bus purchase contracts. In order to promote the popularization of this technology, at least one major car manufacturer must step forward and take the lead in supporting wireless charging technology 100%. We expect this to occur around 2023, mainly due to cost parity between different EV and engine models, as well as competition among various automakers.

  Daimler, BMW and Audi all said they would provide wireless charging systems for their 2017 luxury electric vehicles in the form of "upgraded configurations."

  In the process of electrification in the transportation field, the emergence of WEVC systems will also help promote the development of other related technologies, such as autonomous vehicles and electric bus charging systems. If the dynamic charging system can be promoted on a large scale, electric vehicles can be charged while driving, and the entire transportation industry will undergo a huge transformation. However, due to the high construction costs of current charging infrastructure, large-scale dynamic charging systems may be difficult to become a reality in the next 5 to 10 years.

  If the WEVC system can really be applied to luxury models manufactured in 2017, we expect that this technology will be popularized by 2030 and begin to serve mid- to low-end models. In addition, since electric buses can balance the cost pressure of high-power chargers with the help of wireless charging systems, we predict that wireless charging systems for electric buses will play an important role in the initial development stage of the WEVC market.
