  The design and development of new, efficient, and environmentally friendly energy devices and technologies, such as metal zinc-air batteries, fuel-powered lithium batteries, electrocatalytic water decomposition to produce hydrogen, etc., is one of the important research contents to achieve the development of advanced sustainable clean energy technologies. In order to realize the practicality and commercialization of these new energy devices and technologies, researchers are committed to developing various high-efficiency electrocatalyst materials, thereby adding new battery devices (such as fuel-powered lithium batteries, zinc-air batteries) or reducing the performance of electrocatalysts. The voltage of decomposing water to produce hydrogen can effectively improve the electrochemical energy storage and conversion efficiency. The design, development and utilization of non-noble metal electrocatalysts (transition metal-based catalysts, carbon-based catalysts, etc.) have achieved remarkable results, but their excessively high electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential and slow kinetic reaction process severely restrict The development of rechargeable air battery technology and water electrolysis to produce hydrogen energy technology. The study found that related to the continuous pursuit of ideas for designing efficient OER electrocatalysts, it is a new development idea to use another more efficient and environmentally friendly oxidation reaction (such as urea oxidation reaction UOR) to replace the inefficient oxygen evolution reaction.

  In view of this, researchers designed and prepared multifunctional Mn-Ni(OH)2/CFC catalyst materials and assembled them into rechargeable metal-zinc air batteries. Through comparison, it was found that the zinc-air battery device implemented by using UOR instead of OER can effectively reduce the charging voltage of the zinc-air battery (about 0.3V) during the charging process, thus saving 12-21% of energy consumption. The developed high-efficiency Ni2P/CFC catalyst was applied to the study of electrocatalytic water splitting and hydrogen production. It was found that using UOR to replace OER reduced the voltage of electrolyzed water at the two electrodes (about 0.2V); using human urine as the electrolyte can achieve high-efficiency electrolyzed water production. Hydrogen, the starting potential of hydrogen production by electrolysis of water is much lower than that of the currently reported high-efficiency OER-based electrolysis of water for hydrogen production, which only requires 1.33V. The above research results provide new ideas for the design and development of efficient electrochemical-related energy devices and technologies, and demonstrate practical application value.
