6F22 carbon battery.Israeli startup company develops fast charging and will launch new generation battery fast charging technology in 2023

release time:2024-01-03 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

According to a report on the CNBC website, Israeli start-up StoreDot has developed new battery technology that aims to compress charging time to just a few minutes.

StoreDot, a lithium battery start-up headquartered in Herzliya, Israel, announced last Tuesday (June 12, local time) that it had successfully recharged an electric scooter in five minutes. This electric scooter comes from the Spanish company Torrot.

It is worth mentioning that the above-mentioned demonstration actions were jointly completed by StoreDot and BP, a major global crude oil company, which is a strategic supporter of StoreDot. The companies jointly announced that for the first time, charging time for an electric two-wheeler has been reduced to just a few minutes.

StoreDot CEO Don Meersdorf said in an interview with CNBC last Tuesday: "We used the Torrot electric scooter to demonstrate the technical strength we have."

He also pointed out that this is also the first time the company has demonstrated that it takes only five minutes to fully charge a battery pack containing a large number of battery cells, with the number of battery cells inside reaching 168.

In addition to BP, StoreDot has also attracted investment from Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler Group and technology giant Samsung. It is worth mentioning that StoreDot was previously in the headlines because it boasted that it launched a mobile phone with a battery charging time of only five minutes.

Don Meersdorf told reporters: "We are developing a new generation of lithium batteries. What is even more special is that this battery will no longer use graphite materials."

He explained that the reason why graphite materials were abandoned was that graphite materials could not function effectively during the fast charging process.

StoreDot will instead add a mixture of tin, germanium, silicon and other organic compounds to the raw materials used in the next generation of batteries. The company says the changes will provide a better solution for lithium batteries than the battery cells currently used in most consumer electronics.

StoreDot finds itself facing an increasingly tough competitive environment as more companies seek to solve the problem of slow charging for electric vehicles.

Porsche recently released an electric model that can add 60 miles of cruising range by charging in just four minutes; startups Sila Nanotechnologies and QuantumScape are also interested in subverting the current battery market.

Don Meersdorf said StoreDot’s latest demonstration is the company’s “first step” toward eventually providing charging services for electric cars and even electric trucks. StoreDot is expected to demonstrate "five-minute charging" technology for Mercedes-Benz models within the next year.

He also said that Don Meersdorf expects five-minute charging services for smartphones and power banks to be put into use in the second half of 2020, while fast charging technology for electric vehicles may not be available until 2023.

StoreDot is looking to build a battery manufacturing factory similar to Tesla's Gigafactory, which it calls OneGiga. Don Meersdorf said StoreDot is currently in discussions with U.S. authorities about a suitable site for the plant.

As the pressure to transform fossil fuels into clean energy continues to rise globally, the electrification transformation faced by companies such as BP and Daimler has also begun to accelerate.

Jon Sackett, technical director of BP's Advanced Mobility Division, said in an interview with reporters: "Electric vehicles will play a leading role in the future of road transportation. This is why we are investing in related technologies and infrastructure."

He also said: "Electrification provides many valuable business opportunities for companies like BP, and we also see the possibility of expanding and complementing our business types."
