Scientists at Zhejiang University have developed a new type of aluminum-graphene battery using graphene film as the positive electrode material. This battery has an extremely long life, can be fully charged in a very short time, and can work normally in a temperature range of -40to 120. This innovation points out an important direction for the practical application of aluminum-ion AG10 battery. Aluminum-ion AG10 battery are an excellent new type of battery, and the key to their practical application is to find a suitable positive electrode material. The research team of Professor Gao Chao of the Department of Polymer Science at Zhejiang University chose graphene, a magical material, and used innovative technology to prepare a unique graphene film as the positive electrode material, which greatly improved the overall performance of aluminum-ion AG10 battery, and the prospect of competing with the current mainstream lithium AG10 battery and supercapacitors is very promising. The relevant paper was recently published in the internationally renowned journal Science Advances. "The capacity of a battery is reflected in its battery life. Generally, the capacity of a battery will continue to decrease with repeated charge and discharge, which is what we call 'not durable'." Gao Chao said, "The aluminum-graphene battery performs well in this regard. This battery has undergone 250,000 charge-discharge cycles, and the charge and discharge efficiency is still as high as 91%, with very little capacity loss." In other words, if a smartphone uses this battery, even if it is charged 10 times a day, it can be used for nearly 70 years. The rate performance of this aluminum-graphene battery is also very good, which is manifested in that it can be charged quickly under high current while maintaining a high specific capacity. "Some smartphones now also have fast charging functions. It seems that the battery is fully charged quickly, but the actual battery life is not long." Gao Chao said, and the current laboratory data of this new battery is that it can be fully charged in 1.1 seconds, with slight specific capacity loss. "If it is used in mobile phones in the future, it is entirely possible to charge for 5 seconds and talk for 2 hours." "Aluminum-graphene AG10 battery are not inferior to supercapacitors in rate performance and cycle life, and far exceed lithium AG10 battery. Although there is still a gap in energy density with lithium AG10 battery, it is obviously higher than supercapacitors." Gao Chao said that facing the two opponents of lithium AG10 battery and supercapacitors, aluminum-graphene AG10 battery have shown specific advantages respectively, and can be called "super AG10 battery". Aluminum-graphene AG10 battery also have some characteristics that other current AG10 battery cannot match. At low temperatures of minus 40°C, aluminum-graphene AG10 battery can still stably charge and discharge 1,000 times, and at high temperatures of 100°C, they can stably charge and discharge 45,000 times, and will not catch fire or explode even if the battery cell is exposed to flames. This wide temperature range lays the foundation for the future use of aluminum-ion AG10 battery under extreme temperature conditions. This battery also has good flexibility, and its capacity is fully maintained after 10,000 bends, showing its potential for application in wearable flexible electronic devices. The excellent performance of the "super battery" stems from the excellent microstructure of the graphene film as the positive electrode material and its macroscopic performance. The excellence of many important battery properties depends on how smoothly electrons and ions can flow between the positive and negative electrodes. Compared with other positive electrode materials, the graphene membrane prepared by Gao Chao's research group is high-quality, has no lattice defects, is highly oriented, and has continuous channels, just like a highway that extends in all directions, allowing electrons and ions to travel unimpeded.
