Charging infrastructure increased by 145,000 units in the first quarter, and fast charging piles accounted for 43% in April

The China Electric Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance recently released the latest electric vehicle charging infrastructure operation status. In April 2019, alliance member units reported a total of 391,000 public charging piles; as of April 2019, the number of public charging piles and private charging piles nationwide The total number of units in stock is 953,000, a year-on-year increase of 75.2%.

Judging from the data in April, the growth rate of public charging infrastructure is stable. Among the 391,000 public charging piles reported by member units in the alliance, there are 223,000 AC charging piles, 168,000 DC charging piles, 0,500 AC and DC integrated charging piles, and fast charging piles account for 43%. There were 7,464 more public charging piles than in March 2019. From May 2018 to April 2019, an average of 10,748 new public charging piles were added every month, with a year-on-year increase of 49.2% in April 2019. From January to April 2019, the increase in charging infrastructure was 145,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 47.3%. Public charging infrastructure and vehicle-equipped charging facilities grew steadily.

Public charging infrastructure construction areas are also relatively concentrated. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hebei, Tianjin, Anhui, and Hubei are the top ten areas for building piles, with public charging infrastructure construction accounting for 75.5%.

In April 2019, the total charging capacity nationwide reached approximately 356 million kWh, an increase of 28 million kWh compared with March. The concentration of charging electricity in public charging infrastructure is high. The charging electricity in the country is mainly concentrated in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Shandong, Fujian, Hubei, Zhejiang, Beijing, Shanghai, Hunan, Henan, Shanxi and other provinces. The electricity flows mainly to public transportation. Cars are the mainstay, with passenger cars accounting for a high proportion, and other types of vehicles such as sanitation logistics vehicles and taxis accounting for a smaller proportion.

As of April 2019, the vehicle charging piles of about 830,000 vehicles have been sampled through the vehicle companies within the alliance members. Among them, 562,000 private charging piles have been built and installed, and 268,000 private charging piles have not been built. The overall number is not equipped. The construction rate is 32.3%. The three main reasons why group users do not build charging facilities with their vehicles, such as building piles by themselves, uncooperative property management in their residences, and lack of fixed parking spaces in their residences, accounted for 71.1%, and the remaining reasons accounted for 28.9%.

The concentration of domestic public charging infrastructure operators remains high. As of April 2019, there are 7 charging operating companies nationwide operating more than 10,000 charging piles, namely: Te Laidian operates 128,000 charging piles, State Grid operates 88,000 charging piles, Xingxing Charging operates 79,000 charging piles, Yi Wei Energy operates 20,000 units, SAIC Anyue operates 16,000 units, China Putian operates 14,000 units, and Shenzhen Automotive Network operates 10,000 units. These seven operators accounted for 90.9% of the total, and the remaining operators accounted for 9.1% of the total.

Overall, China's public charging infrastructure and vehicle-mounted charging facilities have maintained steady growth, but they have not kept pace with the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle market. In January this year, the Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Safety official announced on Weibo that the number of new energy vehicles nationwide in 2018 was 2.61 million, accounting for 1.09% of the total number of vehicles. Compared with 2017, it increased by 1.07 million vehicles, an increase of 70%. Among them, there are 2.11 million pure electric vehicles, accounting for 81.06% of the total number of new energy vehicles. This shows that the construction of charging infrastructure is still a long way from the vision of "one vehicle, one pile".
