  After a certain period of dry storage (without electrolyte) or wet storage (with electrolyte), the capacity of a battery will decrease on its own, which is called self discharge. The so-called "storage performance" refers to the size of self discharge of a battery after being stored for a certain period of time under certain conditions (such as temperature and humidity) when it is open circuit.

  Although the battery does not release electrical energy during storage, there is always a self discharge phenomenon in the battery. Even in dry storage, water, air, carbon dioxide and other substances will enter due to poor sealing, so that some positive and negative active substances in the thermodynamic unstable state will form the corrosion mechanism of micro battery, and will be consumed in vain due to Redox. If it is wet storage, this is even more so. Active substances that have been in the electrolyte for a long time are also unstable. Most of the negative electrode active substances are active metals and undergo anodic self dissolution. In acidic solutions, the negative electrode metal is unstable, and it is also not very stable in alkaline and neutral solutions.

  The size of battery self discharge is generally expressed as the percentage of capacity reduction per unit time, i.e.:

  Self discharge=(Co Ct/Cot) × 100%

  In the formula: Co - battery capacity before storage, Ah;

  Ct - Battery capacity after storage, Ah;

  T - Storage time, expressed in days, weeks, months, or years.

  The size of self discharge can also be expressed by the number of days when the battery is stored to a specified capacity, which is called storage life. There are two types of storage life, namely dry storage life and wet storage life. The storage life of batteries that only add electrolyte during use is commonly referred to as dry storage life. Dry storage life can be very long. The storage life of batteries with added electrolyte before leaving the factory is commonly referred to as wet storage life (or wet charging life). During wet storage, self discharge is severe and the lifespan is short. The dry storage life of silver zinc batteries can reach 5-8 years, but their wet storage life is usually only a few months
