CR2032 button cell batteries

The research team teaches you how to extend the life of CR2032 button cell batteries

In addition to smartphones, most smart devices currently use lithium-ion batteries as a way of energy supply. No matter what, the power of lithium-ion batteries will be lost over time, so how can we maintain the battery more effectively to extend the battery life?

After studying dozens of academic papers and manufacturer's manuals, a team at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, compiled a series of best practices to protect the life of lithium-ion batteries as long as possible. Over time, almost all components of the battery will degrade, including the anode, cathode, electrolyte, separator and current collector. In a new study, the research team identified several important factors that cause battery degradation, all of which are preventable.

First, avoid exposure to high and low temperatures, especially during charging. If your phone gets hot on the charger, remove it. Similarly, avoid charging in extremely cold conditions. Extreme temperatures may accelerate the degradation of almost all battery components. As a guide, do not charge if the temperature is outside the range of 10-35degC.

Second, the battery hates being too full or too little. Ideally, you should never let them charge past 80% or discharge to less than 20% because going over the range on either side will stress and degrade your lithium-ion battery. If you want a fully charged battery, then keep fully charging it and once it reaches 100% charge, take it off the charger.

Third, avoid rapid charging and discharging if possible. Rapid chargers may seem convenient, but the high current will heat and degrade the battery faster than a trickle charge. The same is true for high discharge rates, and power-hungry uses are bad for your battery and will shorten its lifespan.

Finally, avoid using or storing lithium-ion batteries in humid environments and prevent mechanical damage, such as punctures.
