The system includes overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and overtemperature protection (OTP), which interrupt charging or reduce current if thresholds are exceeded. For example, if a sensor detects a cell temperature above 50°C, the ICMS pauses charging and activates cooling fans or alerts the user, preventing thermal damage.
Communication capabilities enhance ICMS functionality, enabling integration with external devices via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or CAN bus protocols. In smart homes, users can monitor charging status and adjust settings via smartphone apps, while in EVs, the ICMS communicates with the vehicle’s central system to coordinate charging with grid demand or renewable energy availability (e.g., prioritizing solar-powered charging during daylight hours). This connectivity also facilitates firmware updates, allowing the system to adopt new charging algorithms as battery technology advances.
Energy efficiency is optimized through features like pulse charging, which alternates between high and low current pulses to reduce polarization and improve charge acceptance.
