  This technology was jointly developed by Dr. Hu Qichao and Professor Donald Sadoway of MIT. Under the incubation of the school, the two scientists also led a team of MIT entrepreneurs to form SolidEnergy, Massachusetts, to promote the industrial transformation of technological achievements and obtain the global exclusive use rights of MIT related patents. The company received $4.5 million in Series A financing in 2013, with investors including Singapore's Temasek.

  According to the latest report from Citibank, the global rechargeable lithium battery market reached $21 billion in 2014, of which $12 billion came from consumer electronics and $3.5 billion from electric vehicles. Conservatively estimated, the global rechargeable lithium battery market reached $35 billion in 2020, including $14.7 billion from consumer electronics and $10 billion from electric vehicles, with an average annual growth of 10%. As people increasingly use intelligent hardware, the actual lithium battery market will far exceed this conservative estimate.

  According to the definition of the United States Department of Energy, the first generation lithium batteries use graphite anode, which can reach an energy density of 600 Wh/L at most; The second generation lithium batteries use silicon negative electrodes, which can achieve an energy density of up to around 800 Wh/L; Both the first and second generations belong to traditional lithium-ion batteries. The third generation lithium batteries will use metal negative electrodes with higher energy density or even have no negative electrodes, capable of exceeding an energy density of 1000 Wh/L.
