L1022 battery. It is difficult to balance costs and profits. Recycling of new energy vehicles must be done steadily

release time:2024-01-02 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

Recently, the State Council officially announced the "Measures for the Administration of Recycling of End-of-Life Motor Vehicles" (hereinafter referred to as the "Measures"), which will be implemented from June. Among them, the "five major assemblies" of scrapped motor vehicles are allowed to be reused, including engines, steering gears, transmissions, front and rear axles, and frames. The "Measures" mainly focus on the recycling of traditional fuel vehicles, while new energy vehicle recycling methods will be formulated separately. Nowadays, the new energy vehicle market is booming and sales are increasing. Many consumers are also paying attention to the recycling management methods of new energy vehicles. Some analysts pointed out that there are still two focal issues in new energy vehicles. First, the battery recycling of pure electric vehicles. If the batteries are not effectively recycled, it will cause great environmental pollution. Second, the residual value of new energy vehicles is too low, causing great economic losses to car owners. If these two problems cannot be effectively solved, they will hinder the healthy development of the new energy vehicle market. It can be seen that power battery recycling has a huge impact on the new energy vehicle industry. However, after the reporter visited and investigated, it was found that the current development of the battery recycling industry does not present the optimistic picture it should be.

The terminal recycling market is still in its infancy

Under the influence of many factors such as policies and market demand, various forces such as OEMs, battery companies, materials companies, third-party recycling companies, and cross-border companies have poured into the battery recycling field. Among them, as the main body responsible for battery recycling, the battery recycling situation of the main engine factory will have an important impact on the rhythm and process of the entire battery recycling industry. The reporter learned that in the battery recycling work of the main engine factory, building recycling outlets relying on its terminal sales channels is its main recycling mode.

After visiting the battery recycling situation of many mainstream pure electric vehicle brand dealers, the reporter found that in the terminal market, the battery recycling work of OEMs is still very slow. Currently, OEMs are still generally only responsible for batteries within the warranty period of pure electric vehicles, and will repair or replace them if there is a problem. However, after the warranty period, no clear handling opinions have been issued, and some OEMs provide paid battery replacement services. This means that most OEMs have not yet made a clear layout for battery recycling of pure electric vehicles.

During a visit to the market, the reporter learned that most dealers of mainstream brands of pure electric vehicles said that the brands they represent have not issued clear treatment methods for batteries that have expired. As the terminal sales market that is the main outlet for battery recycling of OEMs, battery recycling Work has not started yet.

The reporter learned that only BAIC New Energy dealers said that vehicles of this brand can be replaced in the form of replacement if they meet the conditions of 8 years/150,000 kilometers for the core components of the vehicle (three electrics) and the battery attenuation does not exceed 20%. Make a repurchase. At the same time, consumers can use the "Renewal Plan" service launched by the OEM to pay a fee equivalent to 3% of the vehicle price when purchasing a car. At the same time, the vehicle must be driven no more than 60,000 kilometers in three years or no more than 70,000 kilometers in four years. Kilometer conditions, the OEM can repurchase old cars at 50% of the car price at the time of purchase. However, the dealer did not mention the recycling of power batteries.

In the second-hand car market, new energy vehicles are in a relatively weak state. A second-hand car salesperson told reporters: "We rarely accept pure electric vehicles, and it's not that we don't accept them, but only high-end models like Tesla. There may be profits. Self-owned brand pure electric vehicles are cheap and the batteries are It is difficult to judge the attenuation, and there is basically no profit. A car bought for 200,000 yuan will have a residual value of less than 80,000 yuan after one year of driving. If it cannot be sold in half a year, it may be lost, so no one wants to do pure electric vehicle business. .”

Su Hui, executive vice chairman of the Tangible Auto Market Branch of the China Automobile Dealers Association, said that the relatively poor new energy used car market is an inevitable stage and cannot be solved by increasing support or investing a lot of money. As time goes by, technology improves, and the quality of raw materials continues to improve, the low residual value of new energy used cars will slowly improve. "It has taken hundreds of years for fuel vehicles to get to where they are today, and the development of new energy vehicles also takes time," Su Hui said.

It is difficult to balance costs and profits

Previously, the relevant person in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission said that at present, the number of pure electric vehicle power batteries in my country is still relatively small, the relevant recycling system has not been effectively established, and the recycling technology is not yet mature, so there is no mandatory management for the time being. Regarding battery recycling, OEMs and battery companies have their own opinions.

"During the warranty period, we have a contract with the battery supplier, and if there is a problem, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge. But after the warranty period, it mainly goes to secondary use, and users also find it profitable to sell to recyclers. At present, There are not many vehicles that we need to recycle, and we are studying the increase in recycling volume in the future. We need to carefully study how to set prices and how to make agreements with battery suppliers." An insider of the OEM said.

An insider of a battery company said that the company is most concerned about how to improve the energy density of battery products. As for battery recycling, it does not pay much attention. The main reason is that the recycling volume is still too small. Even if it is 40,000 tons a year, for an industry There are relatively few in terms of recycling. The recycling industry has not taken off. It is difficult to make money from recycling, so companies will not invest in this field.

The person in charge of another battery company said that battery recycling is an industry with technical and financial thresholds and requires a lot of investment. However, the current policy only encourages companies to recycle, and there is no clear incentive policy. Consumers expect a reasonable return when disposing of pure electric vehicle batteries, which creates a dilemma for companies that want to get involved in battery recycling.

However, there are also battery companies that have begun to lay out battery recycling. According to public information, companies that produce power batteries such as BYD, AVIC Lithium Battery, and CATL have all begun to lay out the echelon utilization business of power batteries. There are also some companies engaged in the energy storage business, such as ZTE Power and Zhongtian Energy Storage, etc., which are optimistic about the prospects of tiered utilization of batteries and are planning their layout.

It is not difficult to see that most of the companies that are rushing to lay out the field of power battery recycling are large companies or companies backed by large groups, and they do not expect to make profits from this business in the short term. If we want more companies to get involved, we need to build an industry chain for power battery recycling as soon as possible.

Recycling of new energy vehicles must be carried out steadily

It has been 5 or 6 years since the first batch of new energy vehicles were put into use. Calculated based on the five years of service of passenger cars, the first batch of pure electric vehicle batteries purchased have ushered in a small peak of retirement. It is predicted that by 2020, the cumulative amount of scrapped pure electric vehicle batteries in my country will reach 120,000 to 170,000 tons. If these used batteries are not disposed of properly, they will cause considerable environmental pollution. The reporter learned from BAIC New Energy that BAIC New Energy has now set up BAIC New Energy-certified battery recycling outlets in major provincial capital cities, with a total of more than 40. After all batteries are recycled, a third-party company is entrusted to organize the echelon utilization or reuse of power batteries. Harmless treatment.

At present, the recycling rate of lithium batteries in my country is around 10%, while the United States has exceeded 90%. With the implementation of the "Interim Measures for the Management of Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles", enterprises will invest more and more in battery recycling. More OEMs like BAIC New Energy will appear, and their scale will also increase. The bigger. According to predictions by relevant agencies, the scale of battery recycling in China will reach 10.7 billion yuan in 2020. For OEMs, battery recycling will be a profitable new blue ocean.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National Passenger Car Market Information Joint Association, said that at this stage, the battery recycling industry has not yet reached the point where it must be regulated. Although regulation is beneficial, judging from the current situation, it will only add more burdens. "Battery recycling needs to be gradually improved and improved with the development of the new energy vehicle market. You cannot become fat in one bite. No one can predict what the future will be like. We can only improve steadily step by step." Cui Dongshu said.
