　　Most pure electric vehicle fires occur during charging, especially the fast charging stage. Why? As mentioned earlier, charging is actually the mutual migration of ions inside the battery. If the charging speed is slow and the quality of the separator film is acceptable, this will not cause any problems. But the problem lies in the fast charging stage.

　　The so-called fast charging is actually not high-tech at all. Whether it is fast charging of your mobile phone, computer or electric car, it is all based on a very simple principle: increase the charging current or voltage (or increase both at the same time) , directly increasing the charging power. But for batteries, whether it is increasing voltage or current, the essence is to speed up ion migration. This is where the problem comes.

　　The faster the ions move, the higher the heat will be, which is why the battery of your phone is particularly hot when fast charging. At the same time, excessive ion movement will cause too many lithium ions to fuse with each other. Positive and negative ions will collide and fuse with each other, which will precipitate lithium crystals. When the lithium crystals reach a certain scale, they are likely to directly pierce the separation membrane, causing The result is thermal runaway, that is, the battery catches fire or even explodes. In a high-density structure such as a car battery pack, as long as the lithium-ion battery of one module is thermally out of control, other lithium-ion battery modules that cannot withstand the heat will immediately catch fire and explode. What will be the final result? It’s the electric car that spontaneously ignites.
