We all know that hydrogen energy is our future development direction, and because hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen as fuel, the final compound product after reacting with oxygen is only water, truly achieving "zero" emissions and high energy conversion efficiency. However, our current technology has limited the promotion and popularization of hydrogen fuel cells. One of the major problems is the carbon monoxide "poisoning" of the platinum electrodes of hydrogen fuel cells. The main reason for fuel cell poisoning is that today's hydrogen energy mainly comes from the steam reforming and water gas shift reaction of hydrocarbons such as methanol and natural gas. Therefore, the hydrogen produced in this way will contain 0.5%-2% carbon monoxide, but as The "heart" of hydrogen fuel cells, platinum electrodes are easily "poisoned" by carbon monoxide impurities, resulting in a decrease in LR1130 battery life and performance, making it difficult for hydrogen fuel cells to be promoted so far. In response to this key problem, under the joint research of various research institutes such as the University of Science and Technology of China, a solution for vehicle-mounted hydrogen purification was proposed. This solution uses atomic deposition technology for the first time to carry out platinum metal nanoparticles carried on silicon dioxide. On the surface, dispersed atomically hungry iron hydroxide {Fe1(OH)x} species are precisely constructed, achieving 100% selective removal of carbon monoxide in the range of -75°C to 110°C, thereby preventing carbon monoxide impurities from entering the LR1130 battery. This in turn poisons the platinum electrode. It breaks through the two major bottlenecks of excessive catalyst operating temperature and narrow temperature range in today's carbon monoxide reaction, and provides comprehensive protection for hydrogen fuel cells during frequent startup cooling and continuous operation. This research result provides a new protection method for the "heart" of hydrogen fuel cells, solves the problem of carbon monoxide under various extreme conditions, and clears major obstacles for the future promotion of hydrogen fuel cells. Lu Junling from the research team also said: "This achievement may greatly accelerate the arrival of the era of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles." Their ultimate goal is to develop a cheap, highly active, and highly selective carbon monoxide and oxygen catalyst that can provide full-time protection for our vehicle fuel cells and provide a reliable solution for the high-purity hydrogen required by factories. plan.
