At the 2018 New Energy Vehicle Power Battery Recycling System Forum held not long ago, China Tower, as the main enterprise in the cascade utilization of power batteries, signed strategic cooperation agreements with 11 mainstream new energy vehicle companies. According to the agreement, China Tower will organize nationwide cooperation with new energy vehicle companies in recycling decommissioned power batteries.
Ladder utilization is another way out of recycling and dismantling of electric vehicle power batteries after they are retired. It is understood that the service life of electric vehicle power batteries is about 5-8 years. In order to ensure driving range and safe operation, vehicle batteries need to be retired when 80% of their capacity remains, and enter the echelon utilization or recycling and dismantling process based on performance. However, the reporter learned that there are still many technical problems in the cascade utilization of power batteries, and the high cost also makes it difficult to achieve economical cascade utilization.
Echelon utilization has broad prospects
It is understood that retired power batteries are currently mainly used in low-speed electric vehicles, energy storage, communication base station backup power and other fields. Different application fields have different requirements for batteries. "The echelon utilization of batteries must find suitable application scenarios and determine appropriate boundary conditions for use, such as charge and discharge rates, operating temperatures, and charge and discharge depths, etc., so as to fully utilize the remaining value of retired batteries while ensuring safety of use." Yang Kai, director of the Energy Storage Battery Technology Research Office of China Electric Power Research Institute, believes.
"The application scenarios of tiered utilization are very wide. Utilization scenarios below the megawatt level include communication base station backup, distributed energy storage systems, tourist vehicles, solar street lights, etc. Energy storage system products above the megawatt level are mainly used in new energy power generation. , Photovoltaic power stations and wind power plants can try to use retired lithium iron phosphate batteries. For example, wind power stand-alone energy storage systems can perform peak regulation and frequency regulation for wind power plants." Gao Yuanbo, general manager of Sander Group Smart Energy Co., Ltd., introduced.
It is understood that retired power batteries are currently widely used in communication base stations. China Tower has carried out research on the cascade utilization of vehicle power batteries since its establishment. In early 2015, it carried out a test to replace existing lead-acid batteries with decommissioned power batteries, which verified the feasibility of cascade utilization of batteries in the field of communication base stations.
