LR726 battery.How to test the capacity of lithium batteries

  Capacity is the core parameter of lithium batteries, and lithium battery manufacturers generally have dedicated equipment for testing to ensure the quality of shipped products. However, for ordinary users, how do they know if their newly purchased lithium battery capacity is qualified?

  Lithium battery processing manufacturers here introduce a relatively simple testing method: the multimeter testing method.

  Taking a 1000mAh lithium battery as an example (in addition to the lithium battery and multimeter, a charger should also be prepared)

  Firstly, it is necessary to theoretically understand the voltage value of lithium batteries:

  1. Charging termination voltage: It is also the no-load voltage, which is not the voltage of the working room, usually 4.2V.

  2. Working/nominal voltage: It is also the load voltage, and the voltage during normal operation is generally 3.7V.

  3. Discharge termination voltage: refers to the voltage at which the battery cannot operate, with different designs of 3V and 2.75V.

  To start the test, first use a charger to fully charge the battery with a full charge voltage of 4.2V, and then use an external meter as a constant current load to discharge at 0.2C (i.e. 1000 * 0.2=200mA). Set the discharge voltage of the multimeter to 3V. If the discharge time reaches 5 hours, it indicates that the battery is qualified. Nowadays, lithium batteries can generally discharge up to 2.75V, which is 80% of the discharge depth compared to the previous 3V termination voltage. However, it can be discharged for 8 hours, indicating an improvement in the power of lithium batteries.

  0.2C is an international standard testing method, but in practice, 0.5C is usually used for testing. In this case, the multimeter is set to a constant current load of 500mA and can only be considered qualified after reaching a voltage of 3V for more than two hours.
