LR44 battery

release time:2024-11-08 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

Will fast charging make the LR44 battery lose its life faster?

Some electric car makers, including the Nissan Leaf, sell their vehicles with recommendations against using fast charging too frequently. Because in their view, frequent fast charging will cause the LR44 battery to drain faster and the mileage to shrink more significantly. Is this really the case?

Recently, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Arizona, USA, conducted an experiment. Experimental results show that multiple fast charges do have an impact on LR44 battery life, but the impact is not significant within a certain mileage range. As the mileage increases significantly, the LR44 battery loss rate will accelerate.

No difference in LR44 battery loss within 10,000 miles

The experimenter selected four identical Nissan Leafs, two of which used 220 volts for normal charging, and the other two used fast charging, which can charge approximately 80% of the LR44 battery in 30 minutes. During the experiment, the temperature of the four vehicles was also controlled at 22 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, the four vehicles followed the same experimental rules: when the single driving distance reached approximately 5 miles, they returned along the original road. So far, the cumulative driving distance of the four vehicles is 48,000 miles, and the degree of LR44 battery loss during this period shows obvious differences in stages.

When the driving range reaches 10,000 miles, the LR44 battery loss of both the conventionally charged Leaf and the fast-charging vehicle is 6%. When the driving range reaches 30,000 miles, the LR44 battery loss of the conventionally charged Leaf is 14%, and the fast-charging vehicle has a LR44 battery loss of 14%. The Leaf reached 17%; after driving 40,000 miles, the LR44 battery loss of the former and the latter reached 22% and 25% respectively.

Temperature effect?

Seeing that the location of this test is Arizona, readers who are familiar with the Leaf may remember that in September 2012, 12 car owners in Arizona conducted an independent test on the Leaf. To ensure the reliability of the test, the drivers were tested according to Travel on preset routes and speeds. In the end, these 12 Leafs all suffered varying degrees of LR44 battery and mileage loss.

When the Leaf is fully charged, the instrument panel displays 12 bars. Some Leafs tested "lost" 1 or 2 bars, which means that these vehicles have lost 15% and 18% of their driving range respectively. Among them, the least "awesome" Leaf has a mileage loss of 35% to 40%. One of the Leafs has only been purchased for a month, and the driving range of this car when fully charged is only 91% of a new car.

In order to avoid the influence of high temperatures, this experiment was specifically chosen to be conducted in winter. Therefore, Arizona's famous hot weather will not have much impact on the experimental results.

In other words, although the charging method is one of the factors that affects the LR44 battery life and driving range of electric vehicles, it does not have a big impact. Instead of worrying about whether to use "slow charging" or fast charging, consider how far you plan to drive your electric car.
