Are the core technologies and product application prospects of NiMH battery pack good?

Chen Yuan from Sunton New Energy gave a keynote speech on "Core Technologies and Product Application Prospects of NiMH battery pack".

 

Good afternoon, everyone. I am from Sunton New Energy. I will share the core technologies and product application prospects of NiMH battery pack and the status of our company in the afternoon.

 

It mainly introduces four aspects. First, the principle, structure, and materials of NiMH battery pack. Why is it said that solid-state batteries are safer? Because the electrolyte is inorganic or polymer, as an electrolyte layer, there is no problem of thermal runaway of the liquid during charging and discharging. However, there is a problem with solid-state batteries, that is, the relatively low lithium conductivity and the small contact area of the electrode material. There are three types of solid-state batteries used here, one is thin-film batteries, one is three-dimensional batteries, and there are all-solid-state batteries. Thin-film batteries are very successful. They have been on the market for more than 20 years and now have two to three million units per year. Now the main interest is in solid-state batteries. I hope everyone will be interested in all-solid-state batteries. This battery is promoted by Toyota in Japan. An application may be launched in 2020 for small 3C, or even for cars in 2022. This is the process.

 

Why is this solid-state battery safe? It is different from the mechanism of liquid lithium batteries. Liquid lithium ions are like free in electrons, while solid-state batteries are fixed jumps.

 

This is a common weak lithium battery. This is a contact lithium negative electrode. This battery has the longest lifespan. It is made on a silicon wafer. The overall efficiency and lifespan are not a problem. Because it is made on a silicon wafer, it is very thick, about a few hundred microns. In fact, the thin film is a few microns. The positive electrode electrolyte and metal lithium on it have a very low energy density. It is used for special equipment, such as satellites, or requires a relatively harsh temperature. Assuming that it is flying and aerospace, lithium can be used normally at 100 degrees. This is the energy density that limits the application. This is a metal silicon negative electrode active lithium battery I made in Singapore. The left picture is a thin film lithium battery. The top layer is silicon. This battery itself has high voltage resistance and can reach 4.7. If a full battery is made this time, it is made of metal silicon and silicon negative electrode. It is active when it is powered on. Let me introduce it. The requirements for electrolyte materials are very high. The first requirement is a high concentration of mobile lithium ions. The second is that there are more defects that are conducive to lithium ion jumping. Another is multi-channel. There is also an amorphous lithium conductivity that is higher than the crystalline lithium conductivity.

 

This diagram is commonly used, with sulfide as the electrolyte. This was proposed by Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan around 2012, to achieve 10-2 per square centimeter, 10-2 is the same as the electron conductivity of liquid lithium.

 

Here we still have to compare. It is often said that solid-state batteries have to have higher energy intensity. In fact, everyone often has a very wrong concept. In fact, we divide it into several types. If we want to use the current system, the liquid battery and the diaphragm are 12 microns and 26 microns of liquid. This diaphragm is impossible to achieve 12 microns or less than 25 microns in the current solid-state battery. If non-metallic lithium is used to make all-solid-state batteries, the energy density will be greatly improved. This is not very correct. Of course, if you say that metal lithium is used as the negative electrode, the energy density and volume will increase. This is the concept, which is the overall one.
