What requirements should be followed in designing Nickel Hydride No. 5 batteries?
Some requirements to be followed in designing lithium-ion battery packs:
(1) Vehicle installation conditions
The external dimensions of the lithium iron phosphate battery pack should meet the size requirements of the vehicle, and the necessary mechanical connection interface and electrical connection interface should be provided between the lithium-ion battery pack and the vehicle. The installation position of the battery box should avoid the moving parts on the vehicle chassis and be as close to the top as possible, while taking into account the convenience of battery maintenance. The installation position should also take into account the distribution of the vehicle's center of gravity and the distribution of the vehicle's load. For example, placing the lithium-ion battery pack on the vehicle floor and under the rear seat can effectively utilize the space under the middle aisle and the seat, such as the T-type battery of the Volt.
(2) Thermal management requirements
The battery will generate heat during operation, and this heat must be released in time to prevent the battery temperature from being too high and causing thermal runaway. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature uniformity and temperature gradient difference inside the lithium-ion battery pack meet certain range requirements. When the space inside the battery box allows, appropriate gaps should be kept between the modules to provide heat dissipation space. The heat dissipation capacity of the cooling system should match the heat release characteristics of the battery and retain a certain safety factor. When air cooling is used, the air inlet and outlet should be guarded against the intrusion of water and dust. The air inlet is generally set in a place without other heat sources.
(3) Anti-collision and shock absorption requirements
During the vehicle's driving, there will be bumps, impacts, collisions or collisions. Nickel Hydride No. 5 batteries must be able to protect against these situations. When the vehicle collides, the battery box must meet the following requirements:
a. Nickel Hydride No. 5 batteries and their components must not penetrate into the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and the battery box should not move;
b. The battery modules or single cells and other components inside the lithium-ion battery box cannot fall off or be thrown out of the box;
c. In the event of a collision, the battery system can cut off the high-voltage circuit;
d. In the event of a collision, the lithium-ion battery box must provide sufficient strength to protect the batteries and electronic components inside the battery box from damage.
Four things to note when designing lithium-ion battery packs:
a. Lithium-ion battery packs are waterproof, with a waterproof rating of IP68;
b. Maintaining the balance of air pressure inside and outside the lithium-ion battery pack, because the temperature of the battery pack will change during the charging and discharging process, which will cause the air pressure inside the battery pack to change, and the PUW explosion-proof valve can be ventilated without leaking, so it can keep the air pressure inside the pack the same as the outside;
c. Explosion-proof. Once a lithium-ion battery pack has thermal runaway, the air pressure inside the battery pack will rise sharply. At this time, the battery pack is in danger of explosion, so the PUW explosion-proof valve becomes a breakthrough point, which can quickly release pressure in time.
d. In the combination of lithium-ion battery packs, in addition to the control of the safety, reliability and protection level of the lithium-ion battery pack, in terms of cooling and heating, especially the method of battery connection should be paid attention to, and the accuracy of bMS measurement should be considered. This problem is common, ignoring the impact of voltage drop on detection, thus causing the battery pack's balancing ability.
