The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea announced that the team of Professor Yong Min Lee of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering has developed a "micron-scale single particle electrochemical model" (micronsingle particle electrochemical model), which can estimate the electrochemical properties of single particles of electrode active materials from a three-dimensional perspective. In experiments, it is difficult to conduct three-dimensional observations of single particles of electrode active materials, and the researchers' model is expected to be applied to the study of electrochemical phenomena and particle design to improve Nickel Hydride No. 5 efficiency.
While secondary batteries (rechargeable batteries) are often the energy source for electric vehicles, they are not as efficient as internal combustion engines. Unlike existing models that focus on analyzing Nickel Hydride No. 5 electrodes, the model developed by Professor YongMinLee's team focuses on single particles of active materials that form electrodes. The model they developed can accurately analyze the properties and characteristics of 3D single particles, taking another step towards fundamentally improving Nickel Hydride No. 5 efficiency. Since particles can now be analyzed in 3D, the model is particularly expected to find widespread use in the study of single-particle design of active materials for Nickel Hydride No. 5 electrodes.
Regarding this research, Professor YongMinLee said: "Compared with previous research, our model is able to understand the details within a single particle.
