Pollution emissions continue to decline, making it difficult for power lithium batteries to meet demand

　　Recently, the Fifth Session of the 12th National People's Congress opened in Beijing, and Premier Li Keqiang gave a government work report proposing a reduction of over 3.4% in pollution emissions

　　In the past year, severe haze has frequently occurred in some areas, which has made people very dissatisfied. In response, the government work report clearly states that the emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides should be reduced by 3% respectively, and requires addressing issues such as coal-fired pollution, pollution source control, motor vehicle exhaust control, environmental law enforcement, and accountability for inspections. I believe that with the unremitting efforts of the whole society, there is hope for more blue skies this year.

　　In response to Premier Li Keqiang's proposal on pollution emission control, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Finance have jointly issued the "Action Plan for Promoting the Development of the Automotive Power Lithium Battery Industry", proposing to accelerate the improvement of China's automotive power lithium battery industry development capacity and level, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the new energy vehicle industry. By 2020, the total production capacity of the power lithium battery industry will exceed 100 billion watt hours, forming a leading enterprise with a production and sales scale of over 40 billion watt hours and international competitiveness.

　　Power lithium batteries are known as the heart of electric vehicles and the key to the development of the new energy vehicle industry. After more than ten years of development, China's power battery industry has made significant progress. However, currently, the performance, quality, and cost of China's power battery products are still difficult to meet the needs of promoting and popularizing new energy vehicles, especially in terms of basic key materials, system integration technology, manufacturing equipment, and processes, which still lags behind the international advanced level.

　　The plan proposes to implement the strategic goals for the development of new energy vehicles in accordance with the overall deployment of "Made in China 2025". It will play a leading role for enterprises, increase policy support, improve collaborative innovation systems, break through key core technologies, and accelerate the formation of an internationally competitive power battery industry system.

　　In the field of power lithium batteries, continue to improve the performance, quality, and safety of existing products: further reduce costs, and ensure the supply of high-quality power batteries by 2018; Vigorously promote the research and industrialization of new lithium-ion power batteries, and achieve large-scale application by 2020; Efforts will be made to strengthen the basic research of new system power batteries, and achieve technological transformation and development testing by 2025.
