The difference between AC and DC technology of electric forklifts:
1. The motor is maintenance-free for life. Electric forklifts using AC drive systems have significantly improved overall performance, significantly reduced fault and component replacement rates, and greatly enhanced reliability; the forklift has higher productivity per unit time and lower operating and maintenance costs, which will provide It brings very significant benefits to users.
Therefore, once the AC drive system was launched, it not only gained the trust of forklift manufacturers, but also became more and more popular among users, becoming the trend and direction of the development of electric forklift technology in recent years.
Its advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects: low operation and maintenance costs and lifetime maintenance-free AC motors. AC motors do not require a commutator (forward and reverse commutation), saving components.
More importantly, AC motors do not have carbon brushes and commutators. Not only are the motors lighter and more compact, their running speeds are increased, but they also completely eliminate the trouble of regular testing and replacement of carbon brushes.

2. Regenerative braking function reduces wear and tear. Regenerative braking is a kind of non-contact braking, which is much simpler than the traditional braking system. Regardless of whether the driver brakes by pressing the brake pedal or changing the direction of travel, the motor will be in a generator state, and its electromagnetic torque will become a braking torque.
This means brake pad wear is minimized. The mechanical wear is greatly reduced, which also reduces forklift maintenance costs and makes operating costs lower.
At the same time, AC motors are more efficient in driving and braking. When braking or changing direction, regenerative energy is generated. The stronger the braking, the more energy is regenerated.
The energy storage device of the AC drive system will automatically start when braking or reversing, and return energy to the battery, extending the battery's working time and longer life.
Although some DC drive forklifts also have regenerative braking, it can only be activated during strong braking, which also means that part of the regenerated energy is converted into heat during braking.
In almost all cases, AC motors will generate energy regeneration and continue to act until the forklift is completely stationary, which is obviously more efficient than DC motors in energy regeneration.
3. Accelerate faster and improve efficiency. The maximum speed of AC motor is much higher than that of DC motor, and the power is more powerful. Moreover, the AC motor can feed the regenerated energy back to the battery, which not only extends the battery life, but also uses this energy to improve the overall performance of the forklift.
The result is that the forklift starts faster while driving, the acceleration/deceleration performance is greatly improved, and the time to reach the maximum speed and the traveling distance are shortened. Research shows that in most actual uses, the distance between a forklift's start and stop is very long. At least 20m long. The excellent acceleration performance of AC motors makes it possible to achieve full speed operation of the forklift within such a short distance, significantly improving the working efficiency of the forklift.
4. More flexible operation
The AC drive system plays a unique role in improving the operating comfort of forklift drivers. Because AC motors are smaller and lighter than DC motors, this makes forklift design relatively more flexible. For example, using this flexibility, the space can be effectively arranged so that components such as oil pipes and wiring harnesses are properly oriented, and the center of gravity of the vehicle can be lowered, making the vehicle more stable and driving more comfortable.
In short, as a replacement technology for forklifts, AC drive systems will be used more and more widely.
