The coating process is divided into three parts: one is the slurry feeding system, the second is the coating system, and the third is the electrode drying system. It is a trinity, and each system needs to maintain stability to ensure the consistency of the electrode.
The slurry feeding system is to transfer the slurry after mixing to the storage tank, transfer it to the transition cylinder through the diaphragm pump, and then use the Screw pump to stably output the slurry to the coating equipment through the filtering device and iron removal device for coating.
In the automatic slurry feeding system, the following points should be paid attention to: prevent the slurry from layering in the storage tank, the slurry level in the transition cylinder, the stability of the Screw pump, and timely clean up the blockage of the filter tank.
The coating methods of lithium battery slurry mainly include comma scraper type, transfer type, and slit extrusion type. Each of the three coating methods has its own characteristics. The scraper type is mainly used in laboratory conditions, transfer type coating is mainly used in the production of 3C batteries, and slit extrusion coating is mainly used in power batteries.
The main parameters characterizing the stability of the electrode sheet are the density of the electrode sheet, the thickness of the electrode sheet and the cohesiveness. In the coating system, the main factors affecting the consistency of the electrode sheet are the manufacturing accuracy of the coating head, the stability of the slurry conveyed by the Screw pump, the stability of compressed gas, the stability of speed and the control of dynamic tension.
The pole piece drying system is mainly composed of several ovens with different temperature distribution to dry the pole piece. In the drying system, attention should be paid to the setting of the drying temperature. If the temperature is too high during the coating process, the pole piece is likely to crack, and if the temperature is low, the pole piece cannot be completely dried, which will cause inconsistent local polarization of the battery. In addition, attention should be paid to preventing the floating of the adhesive.
The common problems that occur in the coating process are thick head and thin tail, thick edges on both sides, dotted dark spots, rough surface, exposed foil, and other defects. The thickness of the head and tail can be adjusted by the opening and closing time of the coating valve or intermittent valve. Thick edge problems can be improved from aspects such as slurry properties, coating gap adjustment, slurry flow rate, etc. The surface roughness, unevenness, and stripes can be improved by stabilizing the foil material, reducing speed, and adjusting the angle of the air blade.
