US researchers develop new button battery 2032

 

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have recently developed a button battery 2032 that can be charged or discharged in a few seconds and can work properly on existing mobile phones and laptops.

 

According to the Environmental News Service (ENS), the research team led by Paul Braun, a professor of materials science and engineering at the school, designed the button battery 2032's negative electrode into a 3D nanostructure, which can ensure ultra-fast charging and discharging while taking into account the button battery 2032's energy storage capacity.

 

"Our system can provide button battery 2032-like power and capacitor-like efficiency." Braun said.

 

"Most capacitors can only store a small amount of energy. They can discharge quickly, but their energy storage capacity is small." Braun explained, "Most batteries store a lot of energy, but they can't provide or receive energy quickly. This (button battery 2032) does both."

 

The performance of typical lithium-ion rechargeable batteries or nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries will decrease when they are charged and discharged quickly.

 

Braun's team found that using thin films as active materials in batteries allows batteries to charge and discharge quickly, but at the same time, the button battery 2032's energy storage capacity is almost zero because the active material cannot store energy. However, if the film is made into a three-dimensional structure, it can both increase the energy storage capacity and provide a strong current.

 

Such performance helps to develop mobile phones that charge in seconds, laptops that charge in minutes, as well as high-power lasers and defibrillators. Batteries that can store a lot of energy and discharge and charge quickly at the same time are also the dream of special applications.

 

Braun believes that this new button battery 2032 was born to be developed for electric vehicles, because the current limitations of electric vehicle development are short button battery 2032 life and long charging time.

 

The technical key to the new 3D button battery 2032 structure is to combine self-assembling nanospheres with thin films.

 

The researchers first covered the surface of a substrate with nanospheres and made the spheres tightly packed together to form a lattice framework. Using other methods to create this uniform lattice framework is not only time-consuming but also unrealistic, but these cheap spheres can automatically arrange themselves in place.

 

The researchers then filled the space around the spheres with metal. When the spheres were melted or dissolved, a porous 3D metal scaffold was left. The surface of the scaffold was etched away using an electropolishing process, resulting in a frame structure without a frame. The active material film was finally covered on the frame.

 

The result, Braun explained, is a bicontinuous electrode structure with tiny channels that can be connected to each other so that lithium ions can move quickly; the active material film performs well in diffusion dynamics; and the metal frame has good conductivity.

 

The research team also demonstrated the lithium-ion button battery 2032 and the nickel-gold button battery 2032 they developed. Because the 3D nanostructures are universal, any button battery 2032 material that can be covered on the metal frame can be used to make batteries. In addition, all process flows are already used on a large scale in industry, so Braun believes that the technology can be put into large-scale production.

 

"We are very happy that it is universally applicable, so if someone comes up with a better button battery 2032 material, this idea can also be applied," Braun said. "This is not about a specific button battery 2032, but a new way of thinking: designing batteries with three-dimensional structures to improve their performance."
