　　According to foreign media reports, when an electric vehicle’s lithium-ion battery is damaged or defective, it must be transported to expensive explosion-proof containers for recycling/disposal. But according to a new study, such batteries can quickly freeze up. However, the simple plastic shipping container involved only costs around £200, making the whole setup significantly less expensive than a traditional explosion-proof container.

　　Dr Thomas Grandjean from the University of Warwick said: "Transporting damaged and defective batteries is an expensive and unsustainable process, but being able to freeze them with liquid nitrogen could save thousands of pounds and make electric car manufacturers more sustainable .”
