Making batteries stable while working and not catching fire or exploding is one of the efforts of electronic equipment manufacturers, and a new lithium ion battery cells 18650 technology that has recently come out claims to be able to do this. In lithium-ion batteries using organic electrolytes, some chemical elements will decompose during the first charge to form a solid protective layer attached to the surface of the electrode, which is called the "solid electrolyte interface" (SEI).
Aqueous electrolytes generally do not have SEI because decomposing water does not produce any chemicals to form a solid layer. But the electrolyte produced by the research team has a very high salt concentration that can form SEI. In this way, the safety of the lithium ion battery cells 18650 is not only more guaranteed, but the electrode is also protected, which can store more energy.
Although this lithium ion battery cells 18650 is better than other aqueous batteries, there is still a big limitation: their lifespan is only about 70 charging cycles, while lithium ion battery cells 18650 manufacturers hope to reach at least 500. "The next step is to extend the charging cycle," said Chongyin Yang, a member of the research team. "We are very eager to commercialize this technology and bring it to market."
