Aqueous electrolytes generally do not have SEI because decomposing water does not produce any chemicals to form a solid layer. But the electrolyte produced by the research team has a very high salt concentration that can form SEI. In this way, the safety of the lithium ion battery cells 18650 is not only more guaranteed, but the electrode is also protected, which can store more energy.

"The next step is to extend the charging cycle," said Chongyin Yang, a member of the research team. "We are very eager to commercialize this technology and bring it to market."
