Aqueous electrolytes generally do not have SEI because decomposing water does not produce any chemicals to form a solid layer. But the electrolyte produced by the research team has a very high salt concentration that can form SEI. "The next step is to extend the charging cycle," said Chongyin Yang, a member of the research team. "We are very eager to commercialize this technology and bring it to market."
